Rating: Summary: great book! a must for Oracle warehousing Review: A great book that condenses information scattered across many other books. I'll definitely purchase the oracle8i book upon release.
Rating: Summary: getting old quickly Review: I agree, this may be the book on Oracle Data Warehousing with the most practical value. On the other hand, the Oracle RDBMS is evolving so dramatically, that this book alone is no longer sufficient. When they publish a second edition, covering Oracle8i features, I'll come back and give it five stars.
Rating: Summary: This is THE book on Data Warehousing with Oracle Review: I have read a lot of books on data warehousing. Some of them good, some of them terrible. This one is by and far one of the best. Gary did a great job with this book. Of all the books I have read on Data warehousing with Oracle this is the one to which I refer the most. If you are at all interested in Data Warehousing with Oracle GET THIS BOOK. It is a definit must.
Rating: Summary: Skip the first three chapters Review: If you want to know what data warehousing is all about, skip the first few chapters. It will be much better if the author can devote more pages to explain the process of denormalisation, an important process in building the data warehouse as suggested.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Technical and Real World Information Review: Simply put, this book is excellent! The authors take you through all major aspects of data warehousing. There knowledge of Oracle and warehousing in general shines through in every chapter. Combined with an excellent - and sometimes humorous - writing style this ranks as one of the top books in my technical reference library.
Rating: Summary: Decent book but missing design theory. Review: This book is geared more towards implementing an existing design onto an Oracle database rather than how to design a good warehouse then implement it into Oracle. Its very adept at what it does, I just wish it went over more design theory.
Rating: Summary: The most comprehensive book on Oracle 8 Data Warehousing!!!! Review: This book is probably the best one stop shop for information on Oracle 8 Data Warehousing. The real world experience that each author bring to the writing adds to the reader education. Written at a level that is informative without being so technical that most audiences are lost. Included is a brief discussion of Oracle ROLAP and MOLAP tools.
Rating: Summary: An outstanding discussion of data warehousing and Oracle. Review: This book is really excellent because it covers all the features of Oracle8 which are essential for Data Warehousing and also discusses about MOLAP products.
Rating: Summary: Excellent mix of strategic and technical advice. Review: This book was written by Oracle consulting insiders who have helped customers design effective and high-performance Data Warehouse and Operational Data Store systems. Instead of focusing on theoretical design considerations, the authors help you identify the kinds of questions being asked of the database, and then create a design to solve the business problem. The design recommendations include every new feature available in Oracle8 to squeeze the most performance possible out of your data warehouse. This is the most comprehensive treatment of Oracle Data Warehousing I have read, and is also one of the best treatments of general real-world design issues.
