Summary: Great Book! A wealth of information!
Review: I normally don't buy computer books, but the promise of learning something new about my personal finances convinced me to give it a try. I'm glad I did! The author has done a great job of providing lots of useful financial management information along with the usual how-to stuff for using the software. The last few chapters are especially useful. They don't cover much Quicken, but they provide tons of info about saving money, investing, and getting the best deal on loans. I bought a second copy for my brother, who is getting ready to buy a house. I think it'll really help him get his finances in shape.

Summary: Saved by The Official Guide
Review: If you're looking for nuts and bolts help, this is not the book. I'm still searching for how to enter accrued interest on a muni bond.

I thought this would be a helpful reference as I migrated from Microsoft Money to Quicken. It's easier to go the trial and error route.

I'm beginning to like Quicken. But this book is now serving admirably as a doorstop.

Summary: Book that should have been shipped with the software.....
Review: Quicken 2000 utilizes the Internet in more ways than one to help you gain control of your finances and make more informed financial decisions. With all of the bells and whistles that accompany Q2000 this book really helps the user gain the knowledge and experience needed while navigating through the software.
Quicken 2000: The Official Guide will show you how to track your investments, balance your checkbook, update prices for your automobile and other assets and really help plan for the future. This is a good book that covers the basics when dealing with online transactions through Quicken. It does not go into great detail about the software; it just gives you enough information to set up your accounts properly. However, this is the biggest mistake that most users make (myself included) is not setting up the different accounts properly. It has excellent step by step examples, tips and snapshots that guide the user through setting up a new account and configuring it to receive the information electronically. It also helps the user plan for the future, set up a budget and arrange all of your current assets correctly. All explanations are clear, concise and very easy to follow, it has really helped me become more productive when using Q2000. This is the book that should have been shipped with the software.

Summary: Superseded Book
Review: This book was moderately useful in handling routine issues, but anything advanced, especially technical glitches, were not even mentioned. Superseded by the 2001 version.

Summary: Too Little, Too Late
Review: This is the book that should have accompanied the software, still leaving the need for a third party book that actually explains what features do what and when, why and how to use them. This book, in instance after instance gives no more information than the program gives, leaving you quite in the dark as how, and whether or not to perform a given activity. I will now buy a third party book on Quicken with the hope of learning everything 'The Official Guide' and the software didn't explain.
