Rating: Summary: Dr. Jasma is an excellent author as well as teacher! Review: For those of us who know all too well that buying the wrong books can be costly monetarily and also of precious shelf space, not to mention a deterant towards learning due to improper instruction. This book recieves my highest acclaims and is worthy of purchase. I knew nothing of C++ programming and in just studying the first 50 pages, I began writing simple programs to increase my retention. I highly recommend that the reader purchase a complimentary book like, Ivor Horton's, "Beginning Visual C++ 6" and Microsoft's, "Visual C++ 6.0 standard edition" compiler. With these proper tools, consider yourself equiped and ready to handle C++! Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Just the facts Review: I have read other books on c++ programming but no other puts it as simply and straight to the point as this one. Many other books can overwhelm the beginner with too much info all at once, where this one breaks it all down into small, easy to read and understand chapters. This is definitly not an advanced level book with all the info on how the software interacts with hardware and covering every aspect of the language but thats not the books intention. It gives the beginning programmer (new to c++ or programming overall) a good entrance to c++ programming. If I had studied this one first I wouldn't have wasted a good deal of time trying to made heads or tails of some of the others out there.
Rating: Summary: It's the best book for novice I've never seen. Review: I have tried couple books on the Topic of C++, lippman's c++ prime, C++ in 21 days and so on. Those books are good but they direct you a long way to the point you really want to learn. The book, Rescued by C++ gets you to the point directly.Plus the Codes are complete and runable. Try to debug them and you will know the concept. How ever, It's just a book for beginner you still need another book and more examples for advanced study on C++.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST Beginning Book for C++ Review: I've tuaght many C++ classes using the earlier editions of this book, so it's about time I wrote a review for Rescued by C++. An earlier review says that it's excellent writing. I echo that sentiment. I studied C for YEARS, trying to break out of the Tech Writing World into the Programming World. Then I got Kris' first edition of Rescued by C++. Wow! Where C seemed jagged and arcane, THIS C++ was clear and logical ... and POWERFUL ... even beautiful! I decided to teach my first C++ class on the spot. Kris' writing seems to go directly into the brain. Recommended? Buy several copies and give them as gifts! Better yet, use it to teach C++ to some folks who need to upgrade their earning power.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Concise but Thorough Tutorial Review: This is an excellent C++ book to learn from (which I did many years ago) but most recently a quick 2 hours refresher using this book allowed me to succeed in a job interview including technical test when I hadn't used C++ for many years.
Rating: Summary: Just the facts Review: This is the gratest C++ book for beginner. I have teach yourself and other kinds of C++ book. But none of those are as clear as this one. The example is so clear to explain the concept. I highly recommend this than any others book to beginner.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Concise but Thorough Tutorial Review: When I was learning C++, I stumbled around with the "learn c++ in 21 days"-type books and then a friend recommended this one to me. It really is excellent. However, I do recommend learning C before you learn C++.... It goes over the features of C++ well, with plenty of examples. Although, I kind of wish it had programming exercises along with it...
