Summary: The Best C++ Book yet
Review: This book does exactly what it is supposed to do; Teach you how to program, and how to do it in C++. Dr. Malik is incredibly lucid in his prose and the examples he choses are plentiful, instructional and appropriate.
One of the complicated issues with programming languages is how much you have to understand before you can grasp a new concept. Here things are introduced/explained as they need to be. So many other authors introduce a topic in an example and then just say "we'll cover this later". Dr. Malik explains why he introduces a topic, explains it so you can get a handle on the concept and then covers it later in greater detail. This masterful approach eliminates a lot of head scratching.
This book's layout is extremely clean and pleasant. Congratulations to Course Technology for fulfilling their publishing duties. Color is used to enhance not to distract. Examples are in the right places so you don't have the page flipping like you get in a Deitel book.
Bottom line is, don't waste money on a bunch of lesser books. Get this one!
