Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A heavily illustrated introduction!
Review: An introductory textbook covering the entire contemporary printing process, with an emphasis on electronic prepress operations. Projects and exercises are included in each chapter. The author uses a large number of illustrations, making the introduction of new information more understandable for those new to the field.

Summary: Took the class
Review: I had taken Mr Bergslands class at TVI around 1998-99 where this book was 'the' text book. It covers lots of basic concepts and covers a wide range of topics. From hardware to software, usage and techniques. As a result much of the book is years out of date (1996). Look elsewhere.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The perfect reference for the publishing world.
Review: Printing in a Digital World is a goldmine for anyone involved in the world of printing. Chapters covering design, history, fonts, graphics, software and the mechanics of printing offer guidance to all who must produce a printed piece, regardless of their experience level. Each section of the book is liberally illustrated, giving visual detail to the text. All aspects of production are covered in great depth (and with a humorous edge!) including the new areas of web design and pdf workflow. The stepped illustrations showing how to "adjust" a poor scan and the presentation of a photograph printed with different line screens were particularly enlightening to me. I would highly recommend this book to everyone who must produce a project for print or web.
