Rating: Summary: A pleasant surprise Review: I too must add a five-star rating for this excellent submission by author Rawles. I am about half-way thru, and like the others can not put it down. This novel about economic collapse precipitating an end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it scenario (I believe the original title was in fact TEOTWAWKI) is engaging, well-paced, written with an easy but thoughful manner. Unlike most other writers in this genre (that genre being survival novels with a pronounced nod towards the gun culture), Mr. Rawles actually writes well. In fact, he makes it look rather easy to do so, although he can display depth and authority where it is needed. He switches seamlessly from an overview of global finance and economics to the inner working mechanisms of an AR-15 assault rifle. His characters are believeable and likeable without being sterotypes, and you wind up actually caring how they'll make out in the end.The only criticism a casual reader might make is how much detail he goes into on some points, notably actual survival tactics and explanantions of specific firearm makes and their functioning (gun-nuts will tag this quite a plus, on the other hand). After a while one does figure out Rawles is doing this for a reason, namely providing the reader actual practical source material for extreme situations in an entertaining story format. I give this work the rare 5-star, and am devoting the remainder of the weekend on finshing it.
Rating: Summary: I wish there were more like this Review: Like other readers, I was inspired to send the author a personal note thanking him for writing this book. Several excellent reviews have already been written, so I will just add that I wish there were many more books like this. In addition to the wealth of information it contains, it is one of the most enjoyable books I've ever read. I know I'll read it again soon (after I finish Unintended Consequences).
Rating: Summary: Patriots Surviving The Coming Collapse Review: I wrote Mr. Rawles a letter to personally thank him for writting this book. I have read it several times and the last time I used a yellow highlighter to mark the really important stuff. The book is either a survival manual disguised as a novel, or a novel disguised as a survival manual! Either way you look at it, it is a darn good book. Once you start reading the book, you won't be able to put it down. The interesting thing about the book is that all the survival references (names & publications)in the book can be accessed on the web. I thought I was standardized as far as equipment is concerned. This book made me re-think everything from the ground up.Mr. Rawles has done a very excellent job of waking up America with this book. Rating: Summary: Amazing story Review: Hidden inside a gripping fictional story is one gem of a how-to survival manual. Virtually every page has a hint, tip or trick.
Rating: Summary: After Reading it, I started to read it again! Review: I have seen this book for a few years but had never gotten around to buying it. A few months ago I broke down and got it and it became one of my top 3 books to have. When I stated to read the book I put myself in it, wondering what character fits me the most. After I finished it, I said to myself, Wow and put the book on the self. After about 2 weeks and currently reading about 4 other books I actually missed it, and started to read it again. My wife thought I was nuts. Then in about 2 weeks finished it again. I went to the web site and my interest was sparked again. They are trying to make a movie, man I want to be in it. One the most real time, happening know books to read.
Rating: Summary: Gripping from Start to Finish Review: If i had read this book 10 years ago i would have said "No Way" but in todays troubled society this is a book everyone should read, and then re-read and take detailed notes. It is a comprehensive guide to a possible future for the United States if we don't change our ways. Cover to Cover in 3 days, if it wasn't for pesky work and sleep it would have been read in one.
Rating: Summary: Read this book Review: James Rawles has done a fine job of concealing a manual of survival preparations in a work of fiction. The book is written in an easy to read, enjoyable style that makes it hard to put down. The author has presented a very plausible and chilling scenario. He has also shown various methods of surviving a situation that we may all one day face. This isn't a step by step survival manual however there's still alot to learn between the covers.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This is one of the Best books I have ever read! It is a manual wrapped around a fictional story. If you want a great resource guide or just a great story, then this book is for you. James Wesley has a screenplay based on this book and his trying to get it to production. If you loved this book help out, lets get this movie out to America. They need it!
Rating: Summary: One of the best! You will read it over and over. Review: I must say that I'm very happy that I discovered this book. As I do with most books, I quickly tried to read it cover to cover scanning only the important parts. But I soon found out that it was ALL important, and interesting. I have since reread it several times...taking notes as I go. My original copy got so dog eared from being read by my sons and being loaned out, that I had to buy a second copy. Everyone that I personally know, that has read this book, has loved it. BTW, I know enough about economics for the first chapter to keep me up in a fitful sleep after reading it. True, this book describes a "worst case" scenario, but that first chapter was a little unnerving. This book will help you hope for the best....and prepare for the worst.
Rating: Summary: Amazing! Review: Patriots is a well written, much needed work. Mr. Rawles is obviously man of extreme intellect. The book is as exciting as it is informative. It is truly an all-American book. I've bought 5 copies to give to friends! Robert
