Summary: Is it enough for building the e-empire?
Review: As an IT professional, I was a bit (just a bit) disappointed with the content of book. The authors have done a very good job in including almost all points that need to be looked into in an e-commerce environment, but as in all "all-in-one" books, some areas, especially those that fall into the realm of business strategy, are left weak. Even in the first four chapters, where e-commerce strategies and approaches are set out, I felt an inclination towards the technical side of e-commerce. However, the book is very successful in conveying different architectures, together with the pros and cons, to the reader who has the basic knowledge about internet technology. I believe that this is not enough to "build the e-empire", but the book has enough potential to act as an infrastructural guide and a reference for e-commerce deployment projects, especially for project managers and executives.

Summary: Here¿s how to do it
Review: This book provides an introduction to the various technical and business aspects of e-commerce for the small to medium business owner or manager. The authors begin by stressing the importance of e-commerce and tremendous growth potential for companies that do it right. After a few brief case studies, they delve into some of the more technical aspects, such as how a company can connect its databases to off-the-shelf e-commerce software. They describe what a server does and give an overview of the features of the top-selling server software. They also summarize the possibilities for electronic payments and how they work, as well as the kinds of security that are needed in various parts of an e-commerce network and why. The final chapters in the book provide an in-depth look at online auctions, project deployment, and their own e-commerce program of study.

All in all, the book sticks to the surface of many of the technical issues, so readers without a great deal of technical expertise should have no trouble understanding it. On the other hand, if you are looking for technical details, you may want to go beyond the level of this book.

Summary: Very disappointing...
Review: Huge mistake, I bought this book before reading any review about it. I thought the mistakes and issues people were talking about regarding the 1st version would have been fixed in this 2nd edition. Well, I guess this 2nd is as bad as the 1st one. Anyway, it's about all the aspects of e-commerce but really really really lacks any kind of depth. It's 100% superficial, pure common-sense and is honestly, indeed, a waste of money. I could have said there are quite a lot of useful links, but when you see they still refer to USweb/CKS, that became marchfirst maybe 2 years ago, and that actually went bust a few months ago... forget it! And one more critic: it sounds like Steffano and Juanita have some problem with their ego... really, forget this book...

Summary: Everyone Gains From This One
Review: Regardless of your understanding of e-commerce, you will learn something new or be reminded of something you haven't thought of in years. For the business person this books outlines how to create your strategy and build consensus across the organization to help insure the success of your initiative. It provides you with an understanding of the technologies involved and the challenges of integrating them to your backend systems. For the techie it provides good examples of successful architectures, addresses security as well as payment systems. But the most important message for me in this book is that Ecommerce is more than cool technology. It is cool technology but without a firm understanding of the business issues and processes it as well as all IT projects will fail. This books shows, or reminds, you of the potential pitfalls and how to manage around them.

Summary: Superficial technical detail & occasional platitudes
Review: This book is really for beginners, esp. their attempts at providing a technical underpinning for a successful e-business. While it provides a broad overview, it really offers very little depth and occasionally seems misguided. For example, even though this is a revised 2nd edition that supposedly uses the "lessons learned" over the 2000-2001, the book advocates decidely pre-mania philosophies such as the all important "first-mover advantage." We have seen time and time again in the internet space how first-mover advantage is an overrated goal, especially when it is achieved by sacrificing clean plans for infrastructure. Where is eToys now? Furniture.com? Ironically, they have a table of approximately a dozen search engines including Yahoo, Excite, HotBot, Lycos, and Infoseek... but Google.com, a dominant engine started in 1998, isn't even mentioned or in the table! Guess first-mover advantage wasn't that important in the search engine space.

Review: With the recent and continuing shakeup of the dotcom companies, and the continuing rapid expansion of traditional businesses into e-commerce operations, Steffano Korper and Juanita Ellis' newly revised, updated and expanded second edition of The E-Commerce Book: Building The E-Empire continues to be an outstanding, "user friendly" source of information for aspiring entrepreneurs and business managers to the processes of sales and marketing on the Internet, including customer service, supply chain management, and the technology underlaying and making possible electronically based business transactions of goods and services. The E-Commerce Book is very highly recommended reading for entrepreneurs, sales and marketing professionals, business owners and managers, corporate executives, as well as the business school student.

Summary: Good E-commerce cookbook.
Review: In this book you will find a guide through the key elements of being successful online. This is more for beginners. According to this "e-commerce cookbook" you must find the right ingredients and the right amounts of each ingredient at the entrance stage. I think that the entrance stage decisions are most important, so this book should not be underestimated by professionals also. 5 stars.

Summary: All-in-one solution to the learning of the e-commerce world!
Review: This book is a must for those who are interested in getting into the e-commerce world. Even if you're just a casual reader, you can find something you like in it. It explains the whole business infrastructure behind the hard-to-understand world of doing business online. It's rather week in business strategies but hey this compact size make it an easy read! I like it since with internet speed I just can't afford digging my head into 500+ pages and to-the-point is what we need - especially now the bubble has bursted!

Summary: A Portable MBA in E-Commerce
Review: This is the prefect book for the techie who wants to plunge into e-commerce. The book makes it clear, through statistics and examples, that just knowing the IT aspects of e-commerce are necessary but not sufficient. The classical b-school issues of marketing, strategic planning, and customer service, as applied to e-commerce, are all well covered. For those with a business background there is plenty of information about the IT needs of a well run enterprise, without getting bogged down in code and programming details that would probably be obsolete by the time they were read.

This book has something for everyone. A must read for anyone considering the world of e-commerce.
