Rating: Summary: Needs more work. Review: A+ certification is the fastest rising certification measuring stick by which employers are judging the computer technicians they hire. COMPTIA has made immeasurable improvements in the exam itself and more and more people are qualifying.Scott Mueller is a highly respected author of computer books, including Upgrading and Repairing PCs, but this book falls a bit short of the mark intended. While Mueller makes a great attempt to cover all of the A+ bases, the book barely scratches the surface. The 260-page book makes the claim to be "Certification Study System", and in this you'll be disappointed. If the author has coupled this his other book then you might have the right combination and then have greater success passing the test. To the positive side of the book, you do get review questions, but again the book falls short by not including a cd with more questions. The book also needs more depth in covering various subjects. This is a good source if you are looking for a quick reference for the A+.
Rating: Summary: Upgrading & Repairing PC's A+ Certification Study Guide Review: Extremely well written and to the point. Good cram sessions and review questions. All in all I would recommend this book for any A+ exam candidate.

Rating: Summary: Incredible book for passing the A+ exam Review: I passed both exams in October this year and owe it solely to this book. The exams had just turned adaptive from the fixed length. I took one of each. The great thing about this book is it's no nonesense truthfullness about what you need to know. It spells out in lay mans terms what chapters you need to know for each exam and what exactly is involved. I would reccommend this book to anyone as a reference work or for those taking the exam itself.
Rating: Summary: Neither a Great Study Guide nor a Reference Review: I purchased this book to use more as a reference than as a study guide for A+ certification. What I discovered is that it doesn't excel as either. Sure, it covers all of the major topics associated with repairing and upgrading PCs (processors, memory, storage, motherboards, the BIOS, etc.), and I suppose it contains enough material to sufficiently prepare you for the A+ exams, but as a reference it lacks the level of detail and organization that I've grown accustomed to in other types of references. I later purchased the 13th edition of Scott Mueller's Upgrade and Repair Guide (a much larger hardcover edition) and am pleased to say that it is an excellent reference for any PC technician or hobbyist who has ever wanted to know what every component in a PC is and how it works. The study guide, however, did not impress me and I have since given it to a family member as a gift. If you want a good reference, take a look at Mueller's 13th edition. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Rating: Summary: WOW !!! Review: I read Michael Myers A+ book and though it was good, I knew I needed an additional study guide. I used the A+ Exam Cram Flash Cards, but THIS book was the absolute best study aide for passing both parts of the A+. Do not be misled, this book DOES have actual test questions on it. This is an invaluable investment if you are looking for a study aide to whatever book you have read for the A+. It is to the point, has great summaries, review questions, and what else can I say but.....WOW !!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Study Guide Review: Read the book for two weeks straight. Passed the exam with no problem. This is a must get for anyone looking to get A+ Certification.
Rating: Summary: Good info but way short of A+. Review: Scott Mueller is a well respected name in the computer industry and I was hoping that this book would make an excellent reference manual for the A+ classes I teach. While this book is updated to the newest exam it falls short of being the go to book I was looking for. The information presented in the book is good and the attention to detail makes the accuracy of the book very good. However you need the have Scott's 12th Edition of Upgrading and Repairing PCs as a backup to this text. The book does covers topics like motherboards, CPUs, RAM, CMOS and BIOS, storage device, portables, safety, Operating Systems, troubleshooting and networking but the information only scratches the surface. There are also hands-on exercises and review questions, which needs to be expanded. The cd-rom included also has a test engine and lab exercise but overall you will need other material in order to pass the exam.
Rating: Summary: The book you need for pass A+ Exam Review: This is an amazing book. Plain english and nice graphics that helps understand basic concepts. Clear and straight! Just useful information. Chapter's book are very well organized. It's author have divide book in two parts: Hardware and Os concepts; excellent if you're planning to take (and study) each exam separate. The book is plenty of excellents tables and CPUs specifications. Be aware! this is not a reference book; there is not enought in depth info. But its author has "Upgrade and Repair Guide" where people can learn a lot more. Next editions could be hardcover, not paperback, for better presentation and book protection.
