Rating: Summary: A must for ATL programmers Review: This book has technical information that's sorely lacking from other ATL books, with real examples. The section on connection points is unequaled. If you're a programmer you'll appreciate the details.

Rating: Summary: Excellent ATL Beginners Book Review: This book is excellent for those unfamiliar with ATL. It provides a good overview of COM basics, template basics, and how ATL works and how to use it. My only complaint is that it could have more details and depth, but perhaps that belongs in another book. His approach is clear, step-by-step and great for learning (as well as for simple reference). I highly recommned it.
Rating: Summary: Overall - very good, low to mid level book Review: This books explains clearly, via both text and examples, how to do all of things you need to do to create usable ATL COM objects and clients. It is somewhat basic but it made several things about threading and connection points clear to me that I not been able to understand from other books. It does not cover much beyond the basics so readers looking for encyclopedic coverage of ATL will not find it here. For those who are still wondering how or why to use ATL this is very useful book.
Rating: Summary: Reads like a novel Review: This excellent book covers a lot of material, but makes even the more difficult topics easy to understand. Tom Armstrong is a gifted author. "The Active Template Library: A Developer's Guide" is destined to be the "bible" of all ATL books. Buy it!
Rating: Summary: This is a "Good First Book" for developers.. Review: this is a good first book. Not for advanced ATL stuff. Also, if you do not know the COM concepts, better go get some other book for that, first. This is very good for someone who is trying to start ATL programming. Nice example flow, using both MFC and ATL. I would say, you will need to read this book surely once and only once.
Rating: Summary: a pratical guide and excellent beginning book Review: This is by far the most attractive and interesting books I have ever read about COM/ATL. I consider it is both useful and pratical among others. I temp to like the repeating IMath example because it takes you one step ahead at a time so you don't get lost quickly.
Rating: Summary: Best explanation of COM I've read Review: This is the best tutorial book I've read on COM and ATL. Armstrong's explanations and examples are very clear and understandable. The only drawback is that the book is becoming a bit dated with the advent of ATL 3.0 in VC++ 6.
Rating: Summary: An Excellent COM & ATL/COM Reference For VC++ Programmer Review: Tom Armstrong is a true teacher. Every concept was methodically introduced. From the basic COM construct to ATL support of it and, how client apps. might use it. I am particularly impressed with his approach of introducing (simplified) pseudo ATL codes first to enable me to understand a concept before looking at the real ATL generated codes. Definitely a recommended reading!
Rating: Summary: Great book for VC++ developers wanting to learn ATL and COM Review: Tom Armstrong's writing style is easy to read, the examples are very effective, and each of the chapters is worthwhile. This book covers a lot of ground, and is an excellent resource for C++ developers wanting to learn IDL,ATL, and OLE/COM. I look forward to other titles by the same author.
