Rating: Summary: Bad examples, choppy, dated and not for beginners Review: I'm a big fan of the WROX publications (for ASP in particular), but this book was a disappointment. The writing was choppy - as you might expect from a book with 14 guys on the cover. The examples were cryptic and raise more questions than they answer. The author(s) seem to me to be attempting to impress us (and each other) with their knowledge of the subject rather than really trying to write a digestible explanation of ways to utilize XML in an ASP environment.
Rating: Summary: Excellent material... Review: If you are looking to use XML in ASP, then this is the title for you - from cover to cover. Some proclaim distaste toward this book because it uses JScript in the examples. Unfortunately these are people who focus on simple and obscure/irrelevant details. Many professional developers use JScript (which is really JavaScript) which allows you to leverage server AND client side scripting in one language. This allows a unified approach to teaching the client and server programming methodologies in XML. If you are a serious developer in ASP, you will want, nay...you NEED this book!
Rating: Summary: This is the resource you have been looking for! Review: If you are working on an ASP based project using XML this is possibly the best book currently available. One of things that makes it unqiue is that is shows specific examples of using objects and methods that incorporate the XML Document Object Model using server side scripting techniques (MSXML.DLL). Most XML books currently available provide information on client side data binding. Not very useful for enterprise development projects. This book in addition to "ASP Databases" will solve all your questions dealing with ASP, ADO, and XML integration.
Rating: Summary: this book is very useful @! Review: in this book, the main topic is wap theory and application. also treat the various example.. as a reult this book is suitable for developer.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book, but............. Review: Ok. This book is very solid. Takes you from little to no XML knowledge to writing some very solid pages. However, there's just one question: Why JScript? Throughout the book, it uses JScript or JavaScript for the ASP code. What's wrong with VBScript? That's what I've always done in the past (and I suspect many people have also), so it seemed a bit odd that the book wanted to use JScript. (I can do JavaScript - that's not the issue. It was just something I found odd.) Other than that one little complaint, a very solid book.
Rating: Summary: Great for beginners, but lack detailed Review: overall this book was good. however the case studies didn't seem to all follow the same goal of ASP based XML. i would have like more chapters specific to ASP and less case studies.
Rating: Summary: Not the only book you'll need Review: Parts of this book are good, unfortunately most of it is only average material, even the case studies (which account for almost half the book) aren't all that great. Lot's of information to sample and get your feet wet. Thrown at you at "professional" level, just don't expect to walk away from this one an XML expert. Unfortunately, about a quarter of the content in this book is out of date. XML is like hot lava, it's always changing form, so this book is a good starting point, just do your homework after reading.
Rating: Summary: Now Showing 'Rocky 6' oops 'XML 4' Review: Student : This is the 4th or 5th book on XML, Wrox has come out with. What are they doing Sir? Sir: I guess they are desperately trying to beat the Rocky movie series. Student: But except for Rocky (I) all the remaining movies were a disaster ! Sir: But that's not our concern dear student. We were satisfied by the first part and now it should be our humble and sincere effort to go and buy all the remaining parts of XML churned out by the Wrox factory. It is our humble duty that after reading all the remaining XML books, we find someone on the street to help us kick ourselves for having spent on the remaining books and for the trust we had placed in a publication house. Student: What's wrong with ASP XML? Sir: It would be like asking 'what's wrong with repeating your same class 5 times'. We've read BeginningXML,ProfXML,VB6XML and now it was the duty of Wrox to come out with ASP XML, which I think are photocopies of the earlier books. Student: That must have been a lot of load on the photocopy machine. Sir: I totally agree. The only things which got fried with ASP XML are the poor photocopier and poor us. Student: I noticed there was just one chapter which linked XML to ASP.Rest all was simply a repeat of what we have read in earlier books. There was nothing new. They didn't even teach how in the world could we use SOAP,XMLHTTP etc. in ASP Code. Sir: Firstly Wrox believes in the eternal principle of revising your basics over and over again even if you have to spend your lunch, dinner and migrane money on their books. (By the way remind me to buy Migrane pills on the way back, reading ASP XML is making my brains question the logic of learning computers in the first place.) Secondly the book has no intention to teach you the ropes of ASP-XML integration.Remember this is a professional series. You are assumed to be a creator/inventor of ASP, nothing less, inorder to understand this book, if you aren't you have no business buying this book. Student: You'r right Sir, I am seeing illusions of ASP dancing around like a mad man after reading this book. Sir: Its not your fault son,if this books can make me walk on my head, I fear to see what it would do to mere mortals like you. Student: Thank you for your valuable insights Sir. Sir: You are most welcome!!!

Rating: Summary: Excellent XML Book Review: The authors did a really nice job on explaing XML for ASP developers. I like the case study section which provides real world examples.
