Rating: Summary: A Great Read! Review: Started reading StrikingItRich.com at DFW airport. Hustled right off the plane in Phoenix so that I could read more before getting on yet another flight. Finished page 242 just before the wheels touched down in San Jose. Chock full of so much terrific (and internet-timely) information. I used my highlighter to note omething on 54 different pages.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfuly Inspiring Review: Trust me. If you are thinking about an on-line business, or you are just curious, this book is the e-commerce bible. It shows with many examples how digital commerce is not at all like retail commerce. With all of the convertional rules broken these businesses stay a float, and do rather well. This is a must have for all current, and potential e-business owners, employees, etc.
Rating: Summary: Amazing! The Only Book of Its Kind Review: StrikingItRich.com is a book filled with story after story of precisely what people have done with their websites to make a lot of money. The detail is amazing. This isn't a how-to book, but a book that shows you exactly how it was done. If StrikingItRich.com had been available when I lanuched my site I am certain I would have made much more money.
Rating: Summary: PRIORITY read (and re-read) for all web & e-commerce sites.. Review: One very sleepless night. A should be PRIORITY read (and re-read) for all web and electronic commerce sites. For anyone thinking of a new start-up - do yourself a favor and read this book. You will spare yourself a million headaches. This book lays out all the critical success factors for success. Definitely a critical read for -your- success.
Rating: Summary: Interesting but outdated Review: Unless you have no idea why a web page may be a productive and profitable idea there's not a great deal of usable information in this book. The 23 examples were repetitive and, although mildly motivating, were about "first movers" who established their niches in wide open fields. For someone trying to start up a webpage today, there will likely be little in this book that the readers feel they can relate to. I'm sure it would've been a good book 18 months ago or 20 years in internet time.
Rating: Summary: Packed with info/excellent organization Review: This is the best book on the subject of e-commerce and websmarts that I've found. Easton writes in a very straightforward style, candidly and with humor. It doesn't read like most dry business texts. It's like she takes you on a personally guided tour of the sites and lets you in on the inside facts and shows you what went on behind the scenes as the sites developed. I already have my own site, but after reading this book I started getting ideas for more!
Rating: Summary: Extremely specific - topnotch reporting! Review: This is not a "how-to" book so much as a "how-they-did-it" book, and I found the level of detail and the range of businesses profiled extremely valuable and revealing. You won't read here about the same old Internet stars that aren't even turning a profit, but about the kind of businesses that real people can start without any venture capital. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Decent content - could have been so much more Review: Before you buy this book, realize 3 things: 1) Ms. Easton defines "successful" in terms of profitability even though only 27% of corporate execs would rank profitability as a metric used to measure their online success. 2) Much of the success of these companies involves the structure of the business as well as the structure of the website so don't think you can have on-line profits with a counter-intuitive business structure. 3) As several others have pointed out, this book offers almost zero analysis of why different strategies worked for different people. It is very shallow in this aspect. A good book if you want some case histories of websites that emerged with profits, but don't expect analysis, transferable concepts, a list of things you can use on your own site, or much worthwhile if on-line profits are not your main concern.
Rating: Summary: Great book that shows there is hope for all of us... Review: Great description of several successful www ventures. Each chapter has one or two points that just about anyone can apply to their internet dream. Perhaps we can get into the 2nd edition!
Rating: Summary: Excellent practical information Review: this was a terriffic book. short on theory long on practical useful information. reading this book is like taking a month long course in internet marketing. author has a very useful site which provides follow ups on all the stories profiled in the book. buy it!
