Rating: Summary: Terrible! Review: After completing the course at UMUC/Mildenhall, I can say that we (the class) were fortunate enough to have an instructor that did a lot of cross referencing with other text books to clear up a lot of confusing items. The author/publisher didn't even stop to think about including the answers to the review questions in case someone wanted use it for home/self study. If you look at all of the ratings, you'll see that the bad ratings out score the good ratings 9-2. I'm glad I wasn't in the classes that rated this book with 5 stars. There are MUCH better books for your money. Please take note UMUC, Mildenhall.
Rating: Summary: MCP Prep, NOT! Review: From a glance, this book seems to provide exceptional content and material for a solid classroom presentation. However, there are just too many technical errors, and 'just-plain- wrongs' throughout (start with the review question answers being omitted from the text, the instructor answer keys filled with errors). Also, so much ambiguity and vagueness, that the reader is left answerless and confused about correct methods /procedures for a Windows 2000 Pro implementation. Not what you need to pass exam 70-210.

Rating: Summary: What a waste! Review: I got this book, because I had to study it for my MCSE class at school. I think it was a waste of money and time. The book raises so many questions that it doesnt have the answer for.It says something in one page and denys it in another page,It is so Controversial. Things are unclear and it will confuse you.If you are serious about getting your certification stay away from this book.
Rating: Summary: This really is a good book... Review: I guess there's always some people that just HAVE to complain about perfectly good things. Take this book for example; I think it's great! These guys are whining about , "oh...the answers aren't given for the review questions..." HA! Who cares? I had no problems. It's called, "understanding the concepts", and yes, you might just actually have to READ the chapters to get the concepts and info. down. After you do that then it doesn't matter how they ask the questions on the tests, because you actually understand what's going on, as opposed to just memorizing text book answers. This book provides what you need to know about Windows 2000 Pro, and getting certified. Ofcourse, the best way to learn is by listening to your instructor, taking notes, and hands on experience, but as far as books go, I have no problems with this one. And no, I don't work for the company that made this book in case you were wondering. One of my favorite parts of this book is the CD-ROM that came in the back of the book (don't know if all of them come with it though). It creates scenarios, which allow you to do labs in a simulated Win2k application. For example, it will have you set up consoles using the MMC, set up a RAS, perform administrative functions, etc. So far this book is impressive. I recommend it.

Rating: Summary: What You Need To Know Review: I needed this Book for my class at UMUC. I have read the book and some other study guides in order for me to pass my class with an A, and to pass my MCP exam on my first try. This book has and many Pros and Cons. The book is well written and fairly easy to read. I did not find myself frustrated or confused and I thought that the book was basically easy reading. The book is well broken down into different sections, and the Projects in the book are useful references for the future. I liked this book because I understood and was comfortable with the writing. However the book has many end-of-chapter review questions that did not come with answers, and I found myself a little upset about not being able to find the right answer. What was the purpose of being a guide and not having answers? Some of the questions were worded wrong! Case Projects were Useless and the Questions in the book don't really reflect the format Microsoft uses in their test. If this is supposed to be a guide then the question format should at least be similar to its format so you know what type of questions they ask. The Book should be just a reference tool and not a study guide or a textbook. I believe that this book does not prepare you for the exam. If you want a book that will help you pass the exam, then this book is not the one!
Rating: Summary: CMIT Review: I teach in the CMIT (Academic MSCE) program for the University of Maryland, and this particular book is not of the same quality as the NT4 Series (ExamPrep). I gave up assigning the end-of-chapter questions as in-class quizzes as many of the answers (provided on the instructor CD) were vague and/ or confusing. I had to fall back often on the offical MS Press text or technet for complete answers.
Rating: Summary: There are far better resources Review: I too, was recently forced to use this book for a University of Maryland course, and am still at a loss as to why it was ever selected as a university text. Everything from the section headings to the review questions are poorly organized and apparently not edited. Questions are often vaguely worded and there is no answer key against which to check your progress. The writing style changes throughout the text leading me to believe that this was a group effort without enough supervision. If you are a UM student, you don't have a choice but to use this text. However, if you want a real MSCE study guide, there is an ocean of better choices out there. Go fish!
Rating: Summary: Great Text for Windows 2000 Professional Review: I used this text and the MCSE Guide to Microsoft Windows 2000 Server for the Install 2000 Professional/Server course this summer at a local community college. The text is well written and strives to match Microsoft's MCSE Exam for Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional. The extensive hands-on projects provided practice skills for my students. As an instructor, I appreciated the extensive course materials (chapter outlines, PowerPoint presentations, test generators). I would recommend that prospective test takers purchase a practice test. Perhaps the TestOut LabSim (Windows 2000 Professional Lab Simulator) and practice test.
