Rating: Summary: Excellent Book for Beginners Review: I had never touched Flash before I opened this book. I was excited and a little intimidated by the software. This book got me even more excited about learning Flash than I already was in the just the first few pages. You can tell the author is passionate about Flash. The excercises and text were so well written and simple to follow that I easily flew through the pages in no time. My confidence grew very quickly as I saw how easy Flash can really be if you what you are doing. If you are thinking about learning Flash- GET THIS BOOK. If you already have experience with Flash, you will probably find this book slow. The book's chapters on actionscripting (programming and interactivity) were not as in depth as I would have prefered. This book left me hungry for more info! A great book to buy with this would be "Actionscript: The Definitive Guide" for users who are interested in learning more about programming Flash.
Rating: Summary: A little advanced... Review: I had trouble following this book. There are times when it is written in laymen's terms, but all of a sudden, the author switches gears to documentation written for people who have used this product for years. It is a great resource, once you use another book to learn the basics...
Rating: Summary: The Most Comprehensible of the Flash 5 Books Review: I have been a long time Flash user but with the release of Flash 5 I decided it was time to learn the more complex aspects of the software. I perused over 16 different Flash 5 books and ended up buying 5 different books on the same subject. I finally got to the Kerman book last. Without reservation I can promise you this is the only book you need. It is very well written and easy to follow. I highly recommend it. Only downside there is no "CD" included like most of the other Flash 5 books but that is a minor complaint.
Rating: Summary: Curt Nichols Review: I just spent the last 6 days going through this book from front cover to back. Phillip Kerman has done an incredible job of explaining such a sophisticated and deep program as Flash. Each chapter builds on the last and he does a credible job of explaining the process as you follow along. He also introduces some very important topics near the end of the book dealing with project management and teamwork, two invaluable concepts not always covered in other software how-to books. I feel as though I can now create a reasonably complex Flash site whereas a week ago I felt completely overwhelmed by the power of Flash. There were very few spelling mistakes and all examples worked as described when instructions were followed explicitly. Phillip Kerman has proven himself to be an excellent author and teacher. I look forward to more works from this author in the future.
Rating: Summary: Never judge a book by the cover! Review: I must admit that I passed this book up many times before I finally bought it and even then only did so because it was on sale. The "sounds too good to be true" title and lack of CD turned me off. I have to say now that I wish I bought it long ago! Whether you are a beginner to Flash or an Intemediate user you will find this book worth the time. Each chapter builds upon the last and teaches you the techniques you need to not only build a Flash site but to do it RIGHT! I especially liked the lessons at the end of each chapter which challenge you to use what you have just learned on your own. That was refreshing because from experience I find sometimes "retaining" the information you just learned is easier said than done. This book is a great value for the money and I think anyone who is interested in learning Flash 5 should seriously buy this book.

Rating: Summary: Excellent book to learn from Review: I purchased this book after having seen my uncle using the program, knowing what it could do for my web page. The book did exactly what i thought that it would do. The small tasks throughout the book were excellent in getting me to have "hands on" work, rather than simply reading the book. I feel that i would be able to either use Flash 5 very effectively or even move on to a more advanced book too.
Rating: Summary: Great Book For Those Looking To Start Flash! Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. Phillip Kerman did a good job at introducing someone like me (a web programmer with no flash experience) to this program. I have been able to create some really nice web interfaces and movie clips after reading this book. The actionscript section of this book is not very detailed, but it was enough to figure out how it works in flash, making it easy for the user to figure out the details! I highly suggest getting this book if you are a complete newbie to Flash.
Rating: Summary: Definitely Thumbs Up Review: I wanted to learn flash and purchased it on my experience with sams books. I must say that my expectations were fulfilled. The book is easy to understand and is well supported by graphical examples which makes the book easy to follow and by extension use the software. I would recommend this book to any novice like myself. It is an award winner in my opinion.
Rating: Summary: Too brief Review: I was a bit apprehensive when sitting here with hundreds of books to chose from and not knowing the difference between each. I picked Sams' because it said "in 24 hours" which to me, was impression that it would be a "watered down" version of learning flash so that i, as a complete novice would have a brief understanding. Boy was i wrong. Yes, it's true that this book is easy to navigate and rather simple in it's approach, but as I found myself in hour 11 and hour 14 and so on, i began developing a sense of "gettin it" so to speak, and it wasn't so much what i was learning, but how useful that knowledge was, and i felt that from this book i could delve into another more intricate book and have a fairly good understanding of what i need to do. This is an excellent book in terms of value and while it may not be for more "advanced" users, for dopes like me, it's a perfect start.
