Summary: A real disappointment!!
Review: I am a professional photographer who was looking for a reference book explaining the myriad of features available in PhotoImpact. Sadly this book is nothing of the sort. Shallow, incomplete and vague in it's instruction this book is a disappointment.

The software itself is very powerful - it's a shame there isn't a book to help us take advantage of it's power.

Guess I may have to buy Photoshop....if for nothing else, it at least has comprehensive documentation.

Summary: No better than the software manual
Review: This a book that is twice as thick as the software manual that came with the product but offers little more than the same level of help as the manual itself; Which is very little. An example of this "joke of a manual" is the help associated with a brush option called "brush angle" (not even mentioned in the index), the manual states: "The brush panel has five tabs ... You can adjust the height, ... angle, soft edge..." THAT'S IT! No discussion whatsoever of what these options are, how to use them effectively, or how they work.

This is just ONE small example of many.

This manual, like most on the photoimpact software, is really quite useless

Summary: A must for PhotoImpact 7 users
Review: This book fills in all the things that the owners manuel leaves out. I used to bounce back and forth between the operator's manuel and Help and still not come up with the information that I needed. This book shows me all that I was missing and has made using the program much easier. It is well organized in sections so that you can find the information needed for the application you are using without having to dig through unrelated material. I wish that I had ordered this with my PhotoImpact 7 program. For those of you who are thinking about buying PhotoImpact 7 but are not quite certain that you want to committ to the purchase price, the book that I recieved came with a trial CD.

Summary: Covers Many of the Features of PhotoImpact In Detail!
Review: Ulead's PhotoImpact 7 allows users to easily create, capture, edit, and share a variety of graphic images. Michael Meadhra and Anthony Celeste have written PhotoImpact 7: The Official Guide to assist readers to make the most of this powerful image creating and editing program.

This comprehensive book describes in detail the many features found in PhotoImpact 7. Learning to use a new program can be frustrating for some people and others may require immediate comprehensive instruction that owner's manuals seldom provide. Michael Meadhra and Anthony Celeste have done a masterful job in bringing out the many features of PhotoImpact.

Readers will easily pick up on how to create new images and edit existing ones, how to apply special effects to text and graphic images, how to enhance photographs, importing images from scanners and digital cameras, creating animations with GIF Animator that ships with the program, designing Web pages from directly within the program, and creating image albums to store graphic images in.

A good amount of attention focuses on the use of PhotoImpact's pull-down menus, tool bars, and panels. Readers will learn how to quickly and effectively use them to open up images, to select areas, choose colors, crop images, create text and shapes, create pre-defined and user customizable text wrappings, apply type faces, colors, patterns, perform texture fills, deformations, add lighting effects, and to perform other program tasks.

PhotoImpact has come along way and has gained the respect of many people - including mine. This book will help readers gain a better appreciation of what PhotoImpact 7 has to offer them as an image creator and editor. The CD accompanying the book features a trial edition of PhotoImpact and includes some of the graphic images found in the book - including screen shots - in color!

PhotoImpact deserves our serious attention and so does this book. If you are a fan of PhotoImpact this book will further allow your creative juices to flow - you won't be disappointed. If your are new to PhotoImpact then be prepared for detailed instruction that the owner's manual fails to offer!
