Rating: Summary: Re: Very Poor Presentation Review: I would have appreciated the audience intended for the book are the newbies if the contents are not organised in such a loosened way that make it quite unreadable. The intention of the author is ambitious. It explains the Forms Developer "in details" for new-comers. It guides the users to develop an application step by step and tries to explain every and every object on screen throughout the book. Thus, the volumn of the book is pretty big. But believe it or not, you can take very little out of it. The book is not organised in an useful way for you to understand. Yes, it tells you a lot of concepts on everything, a lot of shortcut keys and a lot of tools to deal with. However, you will lose finally in some point and ask yourself, 'What am I doing?' I would suggest the book should be written somehow like the 21-day series or similar good-quality books. The readers can choose to read from the beginning to the end, or take up any clear-cut chapters that they feel interested. More and smaller examples may be employed to denote how the Forms Developer actually works. Also be concise. For example, don't keep on focusing trival things like telling us again and again what this or that shortcut key does. This make the text really quite redundant and difficult to read. The author may consider to keep these sort of things in the appendix. Readers always like good value and huge book. We also like to learn everything in one book. Nevertheless, the author should consider the best balanced diet for his readers to absorb the most.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I'm extremelly satisfied with this book. This book provides you with an indepth knowledge of each and every feature of D2k Form, which are not explored by any other book or manual including Oracle Corporation's User's Manual. I'm waiting for some book to get published on other D2k tools like Report Builder and Graphics Builder.
Rating: Summary: Waste of time and money Review: If thickness of book and long stories around the topics are what you seek, then this is the book. However the contents may be usefull for people who want just to pass ORACLE examinations, the CD also supports this goal. Don't buy the book for creating practical real-life applications.
Rating: Summary: Not for experienced Oracle Programmers Review: If you are an experienced Oracle server programmer and want to learn Developer 2000, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! After the first two chapters (which are the most useful parts of this book), the subject matter is on basic programming, design, data modelling, object oriented programming concepts, SQL and PL/SQL. The book gets back to the subject on using the tool, after a few hundred pages of this stuff. The subject matter doesn't tie into what was discussed from the first two chapters. Definately, not a good book for experienced programmers
Rating: Summary: Not for beginners either Review: My hunch is that the reviewers who say this book is good for beginners aren't beginners themselves. I'm currently trying to learn forms from this book, and I'm finding little of use here. It's very disorganized, and I am actually finding little correspondence between the author's descriptions and what I need to know in order to get started. The author appears to go back and forth between a thorough O'Reilly style guide to everything you want to know about forms and a SAMS style learn forms fast and furious. As is, the author presents too much information for you to learn quickly with this book, and that information, though it could be useful, is too scattered for it to be a handy reference. The book doesn't seem to build on what it has already explained. It sometimes refers to concepts that I'm pretty sure I need to understand, but without giving any clue as to how this book will help me understand them. If forms were merely the sum of its parts, this book might be handy, but I am of the hunch that of much greater importance is the way these parts interact. I'm halfway thorugh this book and I still have no feel for where to begin developing in Forms. But I am just a novice.
Rating: Summary: I am sorry Review: My Name is WangHanbo, and I want to learn ORACL
Rating: Summary: This book will not help experienced programmers Review: On seeing a dedicated third party book on Forms 5.0 I started reading this book with lot of expectations. This book contains lot of unwanted information and it is too lengthy. Lot of unnecessary stuff has been included in the book. Even the CD-ROM contains certain things available along with the D2k CD. One example is the Calendar control which is already there with D2K. The book could have been much crisper and smaller with lot of new codes, examples about use of different triggers , coding techniques which could be used and a small application using all this should have been included at the end rather than from the beginning. It might help to improve a fresher rather than a person who has already done good amount of coding in D2K. Overall the size of the book scares one rather than the contents.
Rating: Summary: One of the Best! Review: One of the most comprehensive books in the market on Oracle Developer/Forms. The book itself worth a lot more than what you pay for it. Although the codes are hard to load, it is a small price to pay. All the projects are available to load and practice on. The Movies are excellent and super easy to use! Just remember to bookmark the HTML page on the CD and you are set. The author went out of his way to make this book one of the best! Not many authors give you so many choices in ways to learn. It is definitely a FIVE STAR book!
Rating: Summary: For principiants Review: Only for people wants to learn Oracle Forms, not for people knows Oracle Forms. IIf you want to learning Forms this book is for you, otherside don't expend your money.
Rating: Summary: A must have reference for serious Oracle Developers... Review: Oracle Developer/2000 Forms is a great reference for old pros and neophytes alike. Lots of good examples and sample code as well as sample applications that demonstrate the power and flexibility of Developer/2000. Oracle Developer/2000 Forms would be a bargain at twice the price.
