Rating: Summary: Poor design for beginners Review: My first book about ASP was "Beginning ASP databases" This book went step-by-step with practical sample code that you could either type in or get from the publisher's web site. It was terrific. Each chapter I went through I felt like I learned something and accomplished something. So when I picked this ASP Developers' Guide up, I was expecting something similiar. I was totally disappointed. I went through the first 5 chapters (180 pages) and didn't learn a thing. During the first five chapters he kept referring to different small excerpts of code that can do this and that, but there was no real direction or purpose in mind. I felt like I wasted the time I spent reading it. I kept telling myself...this has to get better, and I paid good money for this book...keep reading. After 180 pages, I finally decided to cut my losses and buy a different book. I really don't understand how so many people could have given it a good rating. Maybe I didn't read far enough, but when the first 180 pages don't show any direction or pupose, I have a hard time believing the rest of the book would change.
Rating: Summary: An ASP Developers Book for ASP People Review: One of the best resources I have read! This book is great for generating ideas and moving your skill set forward. As a Developer at a Dot com I can say that his two books this one and ASP Scripts are excellent resources.
Rating: Summary: A must buy Review: Solid techie book. A must for developers
Rating: Summary: I lked his last book very much, but this one is even better! Review: The author's coverage of ASP application development is excellent. The content is well thought out and the numerous examples provide not only great code samples, but also led the me to a number of correct conclusions about how to combine the examples to write more complex code. As in his first book, I find Mr. Buczek's direct writing style facilitates a rapid understanding of the material and his anticipation of my questions is excellent. Probably as important to me as the ASP code is the coverage of other app-dev material that is peripheral to the ASP code itself - I appreciate that he presents the big picture as well as the full ASP code detail. Two thumbs up and thanks!
Rating: Summary: A Pleasure Review: This book covers ASP about as well as it can be done. Great explanations and useful examples. Gave me some great ideas for my websites. This is a must have for all ASP programmer libararies.
Rating: Summary: Easy, clear, consistent Review: This book gave me a good overview of web application development and of the basics of ASP. The explanations in the examples were easy to understand and very consistent in their structure. This is definitely a good starting point in learning to use ASP. I would definitely recommend it.
Rating: Summary: This book is OUTSTANDING! Kudos! Review: This book is a wonderful resource for people who have a moderate understanding of HTML, Visual Basic, and how VBScript works within an active server page. I went through the book cover-to-cover in about 2 days, then worked through the sample WebStore in about aa week. Buczek's line-by-line explanation of how everything works is excellent. To top it all off, The few times I had a minor problem or needed advice, I was able to email the author and he actually ANSWERED! It seems that the guy is genuinely interested in passing along knowledge, rather than just making a buck. Hats off to Mr. Buczek.
Rating: Summary: Excellent piece of work! Review: This book is one great piece of work. For those of use with no experience in Windows NT there is a chapter dedicated to IIS and MTS. This is a definite must for IT professionals that want to break in Web Development.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Resource Review: This book really helped me pull together my understanding of ASP. THe author showed me what tools to use and how they would help me out. THe author went into great detail discussing all the related technologies.
Rating: Summary: I really really dislike this book Review: This is one of my least favorite development books ever. After only a short time with it I have already given it "Place on a shelf never to open again" status. I somewhat prefer js over vb. However, to create an asp book that is purely dedicated to vb and not to list that on the cover is shameful. Since the person writing it seems to be tied into Microsoft I am guessing it is another MS attempt to push vb. The vb issue aside, I still completely hate this book. I found the little bit of actual asp in the Dreamweaver Ultradev Bible (another great "bible" series book) far more intuative and instructive that the junk in this book. Note: I have looked at probably hundreds of development books over the last few years and I have never trashed a book online before. That is how much I dislike this book!
