Rating: Summary: Best Book I have ever read in programming Review: After 3 years of my life with AS/400 & Mainframe, I planned to take a break by entering into C, beleive me,this gave me exactly what I needed, and it is a wonderful book,I don't think any other books would have covered in this fashion. Ofcourse advanced programmers in C may not find it interesting but guys like me should read this before getting into more advanced C.
Rating: Summary: Great book, well worth buying! Review: C is by no means a friendly language,in fact it is even more of a hostile, curmudgeonly language than good old FORTRAN IV. C is an entree to more modern languages such as C++, JavaScript and (to some extent at least) Java. It also sounds impressive down at the pub if you can program in C. I can't say that all Perry's book are great, but most of them are, and Greg really gets into stride with this one. Clear, comprehensive, friendly and fun and a wonderful intro to 'heavies' such as Kelley and Pohl's A Book on C. Buy C by Example, spend a rainy weekend or two with it and learn C!
Rating: Summary: Superb Book Review: Firstly I shall explain a little about myself, I wanted to use embedded microcontrollers and started off by learning assembly language, soon I found it wasnt powerfull/flexable enough for what I needed, so C was the way I was told to go. After some weeks of looking through books, I found this one.. I did my usual trick of reading the first chapter, and for the first time since my quest for a C book I understood it! Im a hardware guy by trade/way of thinking and many programming books simply Confused me.Haveing worked through the book, I found it easy to read and very helpfull. At times it may seem a little 'chatty' but to be honest this is one of the things that keeps the book easy to read! I taught myself C from this book in about 6 months, its so easy to get something basic like a 'hello world' program up and running in about an hour, and its VERY satisfying to see.. Its a superb beginners book, but as for reference its ok, but not as good as the K&R white book.. If you want to teach yourself C and you know NOTHING about C , This is the book for you... if you already know C and want a reference book, you wont like this book...
Rating: Summary: A very Good Start to C Programming Review: Great book for a new starter. For something more indepth try A Book on C by Kelley and Pohl.
Rating: Summary: For beginners is OK! Review: I had already read the book and found it is useful for beginners only but if you want to know more about ANSI C, I think it is not enough.
Rating: Summary: Best C book Review: I just had to write a review for this book. It has helped me a lot in learning C programming. The examples are very clear and straight forward and the explaination are very description. Buy it....I don't find much great books out there for C for beginners but this is the best. Will
Rating: Summary: Average index Review: I purchased this book and am now sending it back. I like a good index and this book just did not have it. Common C words were not even in the index - "void" and "extern", just to name a couple. I CAN say the book was typeset and organized very well. It is a shame, perhaps the next edition (I have the special edition) will have a greatly expanded index.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I used this book to learn C. It is wonderful. They should have book like this more. Lots of good examples and very detailed. Get it....and learn C today..
Rating: Summary: C by Example Review: If you are a novice this will be a good book for you. This book is steered toward beginner programmers and should not be purchased by anyone that has an understanding of C. I bought this book because I was very happy with the "Perl by Example" I recently purchased. I was very disapointed. I have tryed to use this book over the past 6 months. Whenever I tried to look something up they don't cover it. So if you want to learn how to program in C its great. If you are like me and enjoy seeing an example of a function, look elsewhere. This will NOT help you. Brian (still searching for a good C reference book)
