Summary: All an experienced tech needs
Review: I tried using the other books (Exam Prep, and others), but they were too basic and boring to hold my attention. This book, however, was perfect. If you have experience in building/repairing/maintaining PCs, this is all you need to ensure you are prepared. Would be worth it at double the price.

Summary: Excelent descriptions and points
Review: This A+ certification book is worth so much. It has really helped me prep and understand everything in my class on computers. I walked into my class and knew nothing then when I read this book I felt full of knowledge and great points to learn by. Thanks

Summary: Good book, but not the only source to be used
Review: I used this book after reading the Exam Prep A+ book from the same publishers. It delivers the info in quick and easily remembered chunks. It could cover in more detail printers and networking, but all in all it hit the high points. Definitely something to use after you've burned yourself out reading other more "complete" books. It really helped me the last few days before the test.

Summary: Great book to REVIEW the info for the exams
Review: If you already have a good background in the topics or are using a FULL study guide, then the EXAM cram book is great for REVIEWING what you need to know. The FULL study guides are usually over 1000 pages, so this book is great for condensing what you need to know. Don't use this book by itself if you aren't already familar with the topics

Summary: Outstanding, informative, confidence builder!
Review: An excellent book to prepare one for the A+ exam. After reading the book, which I could not put down, I feel that I gained alot more knowledge; furthermore, the book greatly reinforced areas that I already knew. Jones' writing style is straight and to the point, with several points that provide comic relief. The book has a questions at the end of each chapter, including a great practice exam at the end. While I still plan to "bone" up on my weak areas, I am confident that I will pass the exam!

Summary: Not the Best Exam Cram Book I have read
Review: This book contains numerous errors and also contridicts itself from one section to the next. Example being which IRQ is used for LPT2...(was on the A+ Exam. Be careful when reading the book and if you suspect something is not correct then be sure to check another resource. The book does contain allot of valuable material that is represented on the exam. However, I have used the exam cram series for several other MCSE exams and I am a little disappointed in the A+ book.

Summary: This book has been replaced - The Author
Review: The 2nd Edition Exam Cram has been surplanted by "A+ Exam Cram 2," a thoroughly revised and updated version of the book. The new book takes advantage of our new partnership with Que Publishing, and includes an interactive CD-ROM with, not only practice tests, but the entire book in electonic format. --Craig Landes, Author (11/02)

Summary: "A+" Hardware "D-" Operating Systems
Review: The first half (Hardware) is concise and to the point, an excellent hardware review or learning tool.

If the Hardware chapters are "A+ Exam-Cram" then the Operating System chapters are "D- Exam-Ramble"

The Operating System half of the book reads like 10,000 word term paper that should have given up at 500 words. Suffering from writing "by the pound" this disappointment offers little of value. Some one should have told the author (or at least the Editor) that DOS and Windows 3.1 are no longer on the test. (Ch. 10-11, p.221-342)

Exam-Cram normally publishes great material--concise, valuable review books. Just not this one. I grew to loath this title because of the poorly written second half.

Each chapter has ONLY 6 review questions, and a single test of 50 questions at the end of the book. Compare this with Global Knowledge's A+ book which has 20 review questions per chapter and a CD which includes video demonstrations of simple hardware operations, and over 220 (yes, two hundred twenty) sample test questions.

Summary: Hardware Section = 5 stars, OS is another story
Review: This book is okay for a review. Maybe to use as a supplement to another book and some practice exams. But only a brave person would take both exams using this alone.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Best way to cram, plain and simple.
Review: This book did a great job summing up the exam objectives.

As a core resource, I used the A+ Certification Training Kit by Microsoft (ISBN 0-7356-1265-X). It did a great job teaching in-depth core hardware skills, but skimped on the OS sections (Win NT in particular). It only covered basic DOS, Windows 98 and 2000. It completely ommitted Win 95 & Win NT, which are still in CompTIA's exam objectives list.

The Exam Cram book made up for that, fully covering WinNT. After getting hold of the material with the MS book, it only took one day to cram, and pass, the exam.
