Rating: Summary: Not for beginners, but very useful Review: If you're a beginner, beware: the Bible won't walk you through some of the basic stuff you want to know. The basic samples, etc., are actually pretty advanced. I still give this book a high rating since it contains more detail--and is more up to date--than the other five I've bought. If you are developing your first Palm OS app, make sure you have this--but you should expect to create your own sample app using the book's general priniciples first.

Rating: Summary: Best Palm Programming Book Review: The best Palm programming book on the market. Good introduction to the Palm OS. Good details about Palm programming techniques. The sample programs demonstrate advanced database management. My criticism is that the database architecture of the Librarian sample is more complex than necessary. But it certainly shows advanced programming techniques for your Palm toolkit. Also, there are a few errors in the book and CD. I learned more about Palm programming from this book than from any other source, It really is the Palm programming "Bible" for me.
Rating: Summary: Once you know some stuff this book is FANTASTIC!! Review: The PalmOS Bible really addresses development with the GNU tools like no other book. I use an alternative IDE called vfdide that is based on the GNU tools and this book really gave me the extra programming tips I needed. It is very easy to sit down and read this book. At 893 pages it can seem intimidating but it really is written in English. I should stress this is not a beginner book but it is a fantastic addition to my bookshelf. I'm at page 200+ and this book has already paid for itself and is working on paying for some of my other Palm Programming books in over all value.
Rating: Summary: Data Types Anyone? Review: There is no listing or description of the Palm OS data types anywhere in this book. Without data types you have no way to declare variables. C has int, double, float, long, char, and so-on, but Palm has all of its own data types. Buy some other book on Palm programming, because you'll get nowhere with this one, without this essential information.
Rating: Summary: Lots of information. Good as a reference, not as a tutorial. Review: This book has a great deal of info and is a gfreat reference but it is too large to be used as a tutorial. It covers conduit programming in depth and is the first book that I've seen with clear explanations of the free development tools such as PILRC and GCC. It also explains Code Warrior. I own several Palm programming books and this one has come in useful as a reference. I used this one several times to look this up with good results. Its worth buying. "Palm OS from the Ground UP" makes a good tutorial book.
Rating: Summary: Defintely THE BIBLE Review: This book has it all! I have a number of Palm OS programming books on my shelf, and the full set of documentation on my desktop. When I need an answer, I always reach straight for Lonnon Foster's Palm OS Programming Bible. It's a great book and truly lives up to its name. Thanks Lonnon!
Rating: Summary: Great book for PalmOS programming! Review: This book is great for PalmOS programming. Whether you are a beginner or expert this book is useful and easy to follow. The book covers both Metrowork's Codewarrior as well as the PRC-Tools. It offers many examples on each topic. The only bad thing some of the examples are tied in with the book's main example and it becomes difficult to figure out the things you just want to do. Other than that it's a great book to have.
Rating: Summary: Great Reference Review: This book is one of the best palm references around. In addition to being packed with information, its realitivly easy to read, and after you have read it its easy to use as a reference. While there is not detailed information about each and every data type (struct) this information is readily avaliable in the SDK so its not really necessary to reproduce in the book. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Palm OS programming.
