Rating: Summary: The Definitive Source Review: A great reference book, the Palm OS Bible covers areas such specialized topics as conduits, IrDA, and color. It's not for a beginner (I recommend Programming the Palm OS - From the Ground Up) since it isn't really in tutorial or walk-through format, but it is definitely a book that every Palm OS developer should have on the shelf.

Rating: Summary: Not for Beginners Review: As with all of the "Bible" series, this book covers the topic well, except for one thing: how to get started. For example, the section on "Creating Your First Program" tells you what the final program should look like, but not how to enter it into the computer. There is also the tacit assumption that you are already familiar with C programming. If you are not already a programmer, expect a few frustrating evenings at your computer while you guess the method for actually putting in the code.

Rating: Summary: Second Palm programming book Review: Great for experts!! Beginners need not apply. Overall, great book.
Rating: Summary: Simply the best book available for Palm programming Review: I don't know how to review this book other than to say that I'd rate it a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10 and the best of the other Palm programming books would get a 6. If you already know how to program in C and you have either CodeWarrior or the Palm GCC tools (the book does a good job of covering both, despite what the previous review said), this is the only book you'll need to buy. Why? Plenty of explanations, lots of sample code, and an easy-to-read writing style make this book not only useful, but enjoyable as well. It's not perfect (the author fails to mention, for example, that an Edit menu with ID of 10000 will be automatically handled for you by the OS...instead he writes his own Edit menu handler) but the faults are few and far between. The bottom line? If you're serious about Palm programming, this book is an excellent, must-have investment.
Rating: Summary: Very Handy Reference Review: I have been a palm developer for about a year, and this book has been a big help. I think it does a nice job covering the major programming topics, with simple code examples for each. One example of how it's helped me is dynamic lists. I hadn't done dynamic popup lists before, and using this book to do it was a lot faster than trying to figure it out from the Palm docs. Very well done.
Rating: Summary: Poor approach towards problems Review: I have been using this book for last one month. I am trying to develop applications using tables and other UI but this book concentrates so much on GCC version its pathetic. We use CodeWarrior as a development tool and this is the most pathetic version of book i ever bought. It would be nice if they had included how to kind of tips instead of aimlessly exploring unecessarily into other examples. I learnt more about plam from web search then this book
Rating: Summary: Best one-stop reference for Palm Programming Review: I was truly impressed with this book. Even after finishing a recent palm project, I still found myself uncovering a bunch of useful info in this book. Some people might pick up this book and assume it was simply a rehash of the PalmOS documentation, but it goes beyond the docs in countless ways. Here's a sample of the extra info in this book that I liked: - More details on the Palm's "serial port" - More details on the Palm Emulator (POSE) and how to use it - More details on the use of tables (Palm's samples are sparse) - More details on how CodeWarrior for Palm manages resource files - More details on which characters in the symbol font map to which characters - More details on Conduits, etc... - Just generally more detail! :) Yes, I agree with the other reviewers that a healthy knowledge of C programming is required. Maybe not a "first" programming book for palm but definitely one that intermediate/advanced programmers should own. The bottom line is that if you're going to do any serious programming for palm, this book is a real bargin and will save you time and money.
Rating: Summary: A quite good book Review: I've reviewed and own several palm programming books. I didnt want a book where I read from cover to cover. I wanted info on specific bits. I got it from this book. The info it presents it does quite well. Its more biased to CodeWarrior than GCC PRC-Tools. The cd presents its example code (what little there is) in both CW and GCC versions. The cd is garbage, sharware junk. It does contain PRC-Tools but no working SDK.... which you still need to download. The book covers various topics well and its interesting read without getting too bored. There is no info on doing graphics of any kind.
