Rating: Summary: Good stuff - more of a "cut and paste" type book Review: "Cut and paste" - copy the code out of the book because it doesn't explain the nuts and bolts of a many things. The back cover rates the book as intermediate to advanced. I would limit it to intermediate. It doesn't really cover too many advanced topics in depth but rather, skims across them without explaining the fundamentals of them or how they fit together.
Rating: Summary: Remember, folks, this is a RECIPE book! Review: As with all Coriolis Black Series books, this one is both great and miserable in that it is a recipe book. Great little examples, nice explanations on how to approach specific VB problems, but once you master the topic, it gets stale fast. Obviously, that makes this book a great reference, for those times when you haven't followed a particular recipe for a while.
Rating: Summary: Excellent handy book to have! Review: Excellent handy book to have next to your computer! A must have for a serious programmer.
Rating: Summary: Just the facts, mam. Review: Finally! A book that shares my non-existent attention span. Just figure out what you want to do, find it in the T.O.C. or Index, and figure it out in a couple of minutes. No more long-winded explanations from an author who throws in excepts from his memoirs. Now, do not expect to read this book cover-to-cover. I have experience in Access, so I know what I want to do, and what tools are probably available to me. This book is where I find them.
Rating: Summary: The Rebuttle Review Review: I am writing this review in response to the person who said Paul Sherif's book was better. As an expierenced programmer I can tell you that this person has no idea of what she is talking about. This book is the best VB book in my collection and continues to be frequently stolen at work due to the fact it is one of the best out there. The problem is that it is not written for intellectually challenged people. It is a good learning and reference book for people who know how to program and just need a boost to remember how VB works and such. And on a final note Paul Sherif couldn't properly state the Hungarian Notation which is properly notated on about 20 million websites.
Rating: Summary: 1095 Pages of Nothing Review: I bought this book with NO experience in Visual Basic and was very disapointed.Even though I had very little programming experience I knew most of what was in the book already. It explains how to drag and drop stuff on to a form for the first 300 pages. After that it explains about graphics, api, and a few things to do with the internet. It leaves you hanging in the middle of every topic covered. It would be easier to read what help comes with visual basic first.
Rating: Summary: THE Best VB6 book for fast results. Review: I don't know how any of you rated this book a 1 star, unless you're some student who hasn't worked with VB before. The purpose of the book is to give you fast results, especially during situations where you have deadlines. Some of us don't have the time to write hundreds of lines of code to perform a simple task, this book gets to the point. A must have for computer consultants as well as software developers.
Rating: Summary: it is a good visual basic 5 to 6 book Review: i dont find nothing form the data environment and other vb6 feature
Rating: Summary: A great book for reference and a quick problem solver Review: I found this book really really helpful while coding or planning an approach. It is not a text book which will teach you chapters one by one, instead it directly attacks at the problem and makes life easier during the development life cycle. I highly recommend this book for people who are involved in designing or developing of an VB application as reference.
Rating: Summary: Great reference book. Review: I found this to be a great reference to the features of VB6. Good, concise examples for just about every function in VB6.Not as much on ADO specifics as I would have liked, but that is probably outside the scope of what this book is meant to be. This is a book that stays open on the desk, I have yet to put it on the bookshelf!
