Rating: Summary: compress "6 Perl books" > "1 great CD" Review: A quantum leap in accessibility to the most popular Perl books available, "The Perl CD Bookshelf" brings together 6 of O'Reilly's finest into a reference with few peers. Perfect for the JAPH on the go, this CD provides the content from 11 pounds of paper molecules and ink, doing so with the natural flow of the original texts. A question a colleague asked me recently took 10 seconds to answer using this CD, an order of magnitude quicker than if I had picked up the physical book, found the same content, and retyped it into a mail message. I cannot recommend this compilation strongly enough: to paraphrase MIB Agent J: it is the "best of the best of the best, sir!"

Rating: Summary: Great Electronic Book Review: Great! You may have 6 best-selling O'Reilly books in 1 CD. Save time, save space and save money. Before this, I owned another 3 Perl books for my web application. Sometimes when I forgot the syntax, I spend a lot of time to search it by finding the index and contents of the book. However, after buying this CD book, I can easily find it by the attached search engine and online index. In addition, the bonus Nutshell book is a great reference book. If you think you are a Perl professional, I can say you still need this to save a lot of your programming time.
Rating: Summary: Assumes thorough knowledge of Unix - Also poor reference Review: I can't think of a better reference for Perl than this searchable wonderful collection of 6 books. Beginners, intermediate, and advanced users can greatly benefit from this purchase alone. If you prefer hard copies when researching a problem, you can print out sections too, so don't discount this just because it's in electronic format. This package just makes it easier to find what you want to have for hard copy.

Rating: Summary: Assumes thorough knowledge of Unix - Also poor reference Review: I had purchased this book from Amazon hoping for a good reference, but they use many Unix terms that are not defined. Even Perl terms are poorly referenced- not very good if you are struggling to learn Perl on your own. I thought I would be able to find the information somewhere on a CD that is supposed to contain 6 books, but I was very disappointed and ended up using other reference books that weren't nearly as expensive.
Rating: Summary: Very thorough Perl reference set. Review: I have used hard-copies of the 'Learning Perl' and 'Programming Perl' before, but this CD set combines both of these excellent references as well as additional references when you want/need to expand your use of Perl. The hyperlinked indexes allow easy access to the information one needs. The 'nutshell' book is useful for reading/browsing when you're offline. I have heartily recommended this set to a number of Unix/Windows programmers at work. I hope O'Reilly continues to release reference sets like this in the future.
Rating: Summary: Great!! (if you like reading online docs?) Review: I loved it but reading though a browser and random seraching can be a pain if your used to flipping pages. For the cost and the search engine, I would recomend it to any programmer!
Rating: Summary: Indispensible to the serious Perl programmer Review: I own hard copies of all the O'Reilly books, and the hard copy books are good for reading about a topic at length, but when I need to find out how to do something, I reach for this CD. The search feature is awesome. I quickly get a list of articles relevant to the task I need to do. I can't recommend this CD enough.
Rating: Summary: Uh-Hum, That's 35 Stars- 5 ea.+ 5 for price & convenience Review: If you are lucky enough to read this, BUY THE DARN THING. Seriously, five of the best PERL books at one low price with the ease & convenience of a search tool. Absolutely the fastest way to get what you need. I actually copied the CD onto my harddrive so I don't have to worry about taking in and out- it is always there. Okay, Here's the plan. If you already know some PERL, you should have already added it to your cart. If you don't, go buy "Perl & Cgi: The Visual Quickstart Guide". This will introduce you to the syntax, the architecture, and other basics. Then buy this CD/ Book and go visit several PERL web resources. You will be a PERL expert in no time.
