Rating: Summary: No information on the autothumbnail utility Review: I had already published a web page using FrontPage 98 before I read this book. I was having a problem with the autothumbnail tool and thought that the book might teach me how to get it to work properly. The autothumbnail tool was not covered at all in this book. The author does provide an email address in the book and responded within 5 minuetts of my inquirey. David Karlins said that the program had a bug in it. Has anyone found an update from Microsoft?
Rating: Summary: This book is the one to get. Review: I have been given the task of creating a new web page for the public library where I work, so immediately sought help. I consulted others in the profession that had built web sites, and this is the book they recommended. They were certainly correct. This book is presented and formated in excellent, quick chapters that are very lucid. As an added plus, the author, David Karlins, provides readers with a web site and email address where they can get further help (the author is quick to respnd, too!)
Rating: Summary: This is definitely The Most Practical Book On Computing. Review: I have found this book to be the most useful till date. Though I have read a number of books on MCSE with IIS4 preparation guides, most are theoretical. This is the only book where I have tasted the fruits of my learning. I had successful results in creating and setting up my website (in the short span of 4 weeks). Entirely based on the training provided in this book. This is better than tutor based classroom learning.
Rating: Summary: Coverage not exactly complete Review: I have not been totally satisfied with this book. More than once I have went to lookup a certain feature and found that it is not even discussed (like the autothumbnail feature). Other instructions (like bookmark links) simply did not work or correspond with my Frontpage 98 program. I am looking for an alternative guide.
Rating: Summary: Easy for Self-Teaching Review: I read this book with the hopes of teaching myself FrontPage without too much outside help. The book explains everything for the beginning learner and is also a good reference for those that need to look a few things up. Also, Mr. Karlins is wonderful about personally answering your e-mail with any additional questions you may have. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a FrontPage guide.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Easy to follow information and workshops. Review: I recommend this book to anyone who has FrontPage. David Karlins makes designing easy to learn and teaches you things you never thought possible. I did not know anything about computers, but thanks to this book I was able to design my own gift site and save tons of money!
Rating: Summary: This book is an excellent way to get started using FrontPage Review: The new book, Teach Yourself Microsoft FrontPage 98 In A Week , is one of those unusual texts which captures your attention from the start. It doesn't matter whether you're using FrontPage 98 for the first time or you've been using it since it was released as a beta. It is a comprehensive text, covering everything from active components like applets, and suggestions to make your webpages interesting, to the manner in which images may be manipulated with Image Composer 1.5. Mr. Karlins' pages have tables and illustrations that walk you through the process of starting, animating, uploading and maintaining web pages, in plain English, not drowning in techno-speak. He has successfully reached a balance between the needs of both the webpage beginner and expert. Pages contain ample explanatory text, presented in such a fashion as to delight the novice and fully inform the most experienced webmaster. In short, if anyone is interested in creating webpages in FP 98, this is the best written, and most complete book I have found. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: A decent book, but author support? "I've had better!" Review: There are two reasons I bought this particular book. The first is that I needed some additional information about using FP98. The second is that David Karlins (the author), promises e-mail support with questions you may have. In fact, he prints his direct e-mail address in numerous places. Well, I had several questions, and after extensive researching, just couldn't find the answers in the book or on his Web site. So, I e-mailed Mr. Karlins with my questions. At any rate, he responded within a day but not with the answers I needed, but an invitation to check out his Web site again! Can you imagine? I feel like he hoodwinked me. Now I don't know if he just doesn't know the answers, was promoting his site some more or a combination of both. Anyway, a decent book, but if he treats you like he did me, you'll find the complete experience to be lacking. Take care:-)
Rating: Summary: A good introduction to this complex program Review: There may be bigger books about FP98 out there, but this one is just right--all the information you need to get started using the program, but not an overwhelming flood of data. All the basics and a few bells and whistles are well covered. Karlin's website and his email support are also excellent.
Rating: Summary: Easy to follow & an execllent asset to Front Page 98 Review: This book is a great beginner to intermediate aid to Front Page 98. This was my second choice after I had alreaded purchased another Front Page self teaching book. This book included some of the procedures my first book omitted. When this book arrived I was able to finish and publish my web site. I have not found any grey areas or errors in this book.
