Summary: Excellent for the Fledgling Web Site Designer...
Review: The title is what drew me to it at first. This is a thoroughly enjoyable book - it makes a superb reference manual. For the fledgling web designer this book delivers great, generally accepted insight as to the do's and dont's of web design. It is well written and quite humorous, and the software is a nice bonus! Those considering taking the dive into the realm of web design, get this book!

Summary: Easy to read, with lots of good information.
Review: This book gave me lots of useful information, it was well-organized and easy to read. I enjoyed the humor, the comic photos ... the pic of Elvis impersonators made me laugh out loud ...and picked up good hints for my website in every chapter.

Summary: Funny but out-of-date
Review: This book is 3 years old, on the Internet this is decades. I enjoy reading it, but I didn't learned much. The authors seems to concern themselves more with the aesthetics of web design than with the usability. Borrow it from your local library , there are better books to buy on the subject.

Summary: A waste of your precious money and time
Review: This book is simply a waste of your money. I bought this based off of the other reviews on amazon.com. This book just gets too repetitive. All this book tells you is to keep the size of your web pages down.

MAYBE this book might be a useful resource for a person who is also purchasing an HTML book and if they have NO experience whatsover. Even if you have made 2 pages you already know everything in this book.

This book does one thing that is annoying: It blabs and blabs about all the boring unimportant stuff, and when it comes to something important like choosing colors combinationg, it gives you a link to some site and says "this is a good resource". If it is so good, why isn't it in the book????

Sure it shows you what is wrong on some pages, but most of it is common sense. What I believed this book would have is how to layout your page, what kind of colors and graphics to use and such to make your page look professional. This book doesnt do any of that. A lot of the book's content is on their website.

If you have any sense go for a different book. If there is a book out there called "BOOKS THAT SUCK", boy does this book belong in there. This is definetaly a huge dissapointment. Instead of reading this, go out and look at other websites and practice making em. You will land out far ahead.

The only instance in which this book might be OK is if you are completely new to web page design. If you have any experience this book wont help you make professional loooking pages. Look elsewhere for that.

Summary: Funny and informative
Review: This book is suitable for someone new to web design. I know I made the mistake of throwing together my first personal page the minute I learned what the <html> tag is for (shudder). This book presents a funny look at how *not* to design a web site, by using bad examples. Their web site is also informative, as they review sites on a regular basis.

Summary: Funny but out-of-date
Review: This is a good book for begginers at making websites. It shows you that just because you can make the backgroud bright magenta and the text lime at size 56, you probably shouldn't. It's also very funny. You should buy this book, even if you aren't a begginer, you will love it.

Summary: Very little useful content
Review: This is an outdated book that has very little to offer in the sense of "learning good design". The authors tell you commen-sense ideas, such as "don't have too many graphics" and "avoid tacky backgrounds". On top it, these ideas are hammered over and over again. Reading this book was a chore: I did not learn anythingnew ... The concepts of layout, color themes, navigation, and many others, were largely ignored. The book essentially tries to convince you to stay away from the newer technologies. However, this is a philosophy from the 1990's. Plain, bland pages just dont cut it anymore. If you are even mildly serious about learning good design, choose another book. This book is targeted towards people who have no prior experience at web design. Even for beginners, this is a poor guide that will take you nowhere.

Summary: A learning experience
Review: This was an interesting, funny adventure learning about websites and what makes them good or bad. While some of the sites they mention are no longer available, they do provide examples of positive and negative applications that can work for anyone. Their humor and good nature makes this an easy read.

Summary: A rarity - a technical book written without author ego
Review: Web Pages That Suck is a no-nonsense, humorous look at the general concepts behind good web development. I found their candor and real world examples to be invaluable.

They need to spend more time writing and hire someone else to manage their web site!
