Summary: User friendly Access programming.
Review: Access 97 Power Programming will take you to places you've only previously imagined. For the person who has a moderate handle on Visual Basic, this book will bring a new dimension into his/her bag of tricks. Although many of the techniques in the book achieve the same results that you might through other means, this book provided many simple, well documented/easy to understand examples. Simple, yet very elegant was ways to accomplish daily database tasks. This is a must have for the Access buff or professional. Excellent!

Summary: Very comprehensive & gets down to the nitty gritty
Review: Although new to Access I have a lot of experience in other programming languages. This book allowed me to get into the detail and produce results very quickly. I would recommend it to anyone with some programming knowledge who wants to be able to use the full power of Access. It gave me a lot of ideas!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The best and most comprehensive book for Access Programming!
Review: As a programming instructor, I am always on the lookout for books that go from beginning to intermediate (if not advanced) and yet stay simple. I find that this book works for all levels of my students and I have recommended it to all my classes!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great Reference Material
Review: As I am challenged with developing solutions this book continues to give me answers. Great examples with all the code, but the text may not be for the timid. Probably not the sole book for someone without previous experience, but definitely should be in your library.

Summary: Worth it for the query-by-form alone
Review: Because it is so rarely mentioned in other books, the coverage of how you build a complex search form that allows users to dynamically construct their own queries makes this book worth the price.

There is also a lot of other coverage of advanced topics such as advanced queries, security, ActiveX controls, using the Windows API, custom error handling and on and on. I don't think any Access programmer who gets this book will be disappointed. I can't wait to see Access 2000 (or 2002) Power Programming.

Summary: Must Have
Review: Excellent resource for actual emergencies. I like the chapter on Enhancing your Reports. Dyanamic Column headings for crosstabs was a huge tip on how to do things. It is a must have for anyone programming in Access.

Summary: Terribly disappointing!
Review: I gave up on this book after going through the first 6 chapters. The writing style is terrible. The book is not designed to teach rather dumps out information in a disorganized fashion. You could go through this book, cover to cover, and still be unable to handle a simple Access project. It's a waste of money.

Summary: For the experienced Access/VB Programmer only!
Review: I have read and used the book, and it is what it claims to be- Power Programming. It is definetely not for the beginners and also not for new "intermediates". The author takes the reader from the day-to-day realities of this world into an immense ocean of real programming and shows how an application be finalized. Some information (such as moving to client/server mode) is presented in a very elegant way. My thanks go to both the author and the publishers.
