Rating: Summary: A definite "must have" for anyone interested in 3D graphics Review: Being as obsessive as I am, I have purchased nearly every book available relating to 3D graphics and the 3D applications that I own. When I first thumbed through the "trueSpace2 Bible", I didn't even own the software, but I was curious as to why the book was thicker than the others. I purchased it immediately after browsing through it, because many of the concepts can be used with any 3D program. It took about 2 chapters of reading for me to run to the nearest computer store and buy trueSpace2 so that I could do everything the book covers. With the software and this book, anything can be done in 3D computer graphics

Rating: Summary: Alert! 3D Junkies, you NEED this book! Review: Even though Caligari has recently released trueSpace 4, this book covering version 2 is a must have. The easy to follow and understand print will have you creating breathtaking graphics in no time at all. Caligari's trueSpace is truly outstanding only if you learn to use it properly. This book will do that for you.

Rating: Summary: Totolly Awesome and Inspring Review: Great book, it also taught TrueSpace in a matter of weeks instread of learning by exprimentation.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book - you must get this! Review: Having bought TrueSpace2 with no prior knowledge of CGI, and being the world's worst artist, I was skeptical reading previous reviews. However I needn't have been. The author gently takes the reader through from first principles to advanced modelling in a clear and concise manner, and in such a way that it gives you confidence to try something new. I can't recommend this book highly enough.
Rating: Summary: trueSpace2 Bible - change your life. Review: Having known nothing about 3D, I bought trueSpace2 quite some time ago. I fiddled with the program, but felt completely helpess - I could make sense of what different buttons did, or even how to navigate around the scene. Thanks to Peter's book, I not only learned the basics - I quickly became powerful and efficient with trueSpace2. My first-ever rendering (aside from small practice renders) make it onto Caligari's May Image Gallery. And, I was recently contacted by a popular 3D publication - they want me to write about 3D and trueSpace in particular!
I am quite pleased with the book. I'd pay double or triple the price to gain what I've learned. Peter isn't content to merely show you how to use the program -- he inspires, motivates, and encourages you. He says, "What you see isn't in this book isn't very good. You can do better." At first, I didn't believe him, because the images were *sooo* good. Then, I started to understand the program. Finally, I realized I *could* do better -- and in two short months I was creating images that I would never have believed I'd be capable of making.
Peter deserves all the credit here. This book is wonderful. If you're interested in 3D, but feel overwhelmed by what's out there, this is the book to buy. Trust me on this. For proof, check out some of the images I've made... Go to http://www.webworkx.com/fergworld/3d. Most of the images there were made in Caligari's trueSpace2 or trueSpace3. By the way, this book is still quite handy to use with the new version of trueSpace, and many other graphics programs. The concepts are solid and make sense.
I love this book! Peter, you're the best!

Rating: Summary: Peter has what it takes. Review: I actually purchased this book prior to purchasing the program. It's intuitive writing and excellent tutorials helped me learn some of the intricacies of the program before I actually bought it. However, the ts2 demo on the CD did not function. Simply contact IDG books, the number is in the copyright area, and they will send you a new CD with a functioning program or download the demo right from Caligari at www.caligari.com. Peter Plantec did a fantastic job writing the intuitive text and points out many features in the program that are not listed in the reference manuals from Calagari. There are a few areas of confusion, very few, of incorrect tool paths and vague instructions, but if you are persistant you will catch on to what he is instructing you to do. I recommend this text to any...beginner or professional...Within it's confines are the answers you have not been able to find on your own. From basic 3D modelling all the way to putting your animations on video tape and selling your work. Look no further for trueSpace resources. Right here it is
Rating: Summary: CD Does not match the book! Review: I have yet to complete the book, I am on chapter seven. The "Shark" project is incomplete. The CD does contain a COB file called Shark.COB but it is the wrong shark file. The picture in the book clearly dipicts a HammerHead shark. While this does not bother me too much, the fact that the alternate shark model does not perform the way the book says it should does. You can not select the tail of the alternate shark model to perform the tail-wagging deformation that the chapter focus on. I would appreciate anyone confiming my findings. More than that I would appreciate an e-mail of the propper Shark.COB file. The book is great so far and I have recommended it to several people.
Rating: Summary: A must have for all TrueSpace 2 artist Review: I purchased TrueSpace 2 because I was interested in 3D art. Like many others, I thought it was "cool". However, after struggling with the users manuals that came with the program, I set TrueSpace aside for about six months. Then one day, I happened to be walking through Fry's Electronics and spotted this book "Caligari TrueSpace 2 Bible". I always heard rave reviews about the Photoshop bible that is also published by IDG books. Well, I thought, if it is half as good as the Photoshop book, it might be worth taking a look at.I was not dissapointed. The book is excellent! I can hardly put it down. It explains things in laymens terms and before you know it you are creating complex objects and animations... easily! I love this book. It's got me hooked on 3D.Peter Plantec (the author) does a wonderful job of not only teaching through example, but really gets you excited about 3D modeling. It's like he is almost in the room with you, guiding you, teaching you. He makes it fun and has a gentle, and somewhat humorus way of writing. I can't recommend this book enough.-Brian M.Web EngineerMountain View CA
