Summary: From beginners to experts
Review: A must have!
Covers perfectly the Samba installation from the firsts steps but also protocol and distributed architecture issues.
Perhaps is one of the best guides to understand the puzzle about wins, browsing, NetBEUI, NetBIOS and the smb.

With an installation about several hundreds NT workstations, and many thousands users this book help us for the daily maintenance.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Sorry, but this is not five-star book.
Review: At the point I'm writing this review, the book is rated five stars, and that is why I bought it. But I do not like this book more than average. The explanation rarely comes to the point. I never felt like this with true five-star books. But Samba is fun. With many things described in this book, we can do lots of magic.

Summary: Readable and recommended.
Review: Carter has written a readable book that covers Samba installation, step by step, while explaining the netbios and SMB protocols along the way. Each chapter has a "Q&A" session highlighting common questions and providing answers.

Most people will install Samba (including me), get it talking to Windows clients and then move on to something else. Carter continues, and even touches on getting Macs connected to Samba. The author also briefly covers installing and configuring SSL (encryption).

For individuals who don't have a lot of UNIX experience, I would say hands down, this is the best introductory book. This book is highly readable, aimed at the beginner.

Summary: Excellent Publication...I've Got A Running Server!!!
Review: I found this book to be really useful. It goes into detail about a lot of networking items I would never have given a second thought to. Thumbs up for this one, Sams!

Summary: Great book !!!
Review: If you want your linux box can be connected to your windows in no time, then this book is for you. It will guide you step by step from getting, compile and install the package. Each chapter is based on the previous one, but if you want to jump directly to the chapter that interested you, the author will give a short explaination about the basic you need to know. This book gives the why, and how for networking between windows and linux. More over this book can protect you from falling into the hole that not visible for the novice ( like me ). Thanks a lot to the author, you have done a great job

Summary: Lives up to its promise, Samba in 24 hours.
Review: In a world of Linux How-To's and online documentation that is full of details, but short on explanation, Teach Yourself Samba in 24 Hours fills the void. The author goes beyond the configuration syntax to expain the details behind each setting, in a progressive and logical manner. I began the book after many attempts of configuring Samba, I finished with a working implimentation that I understand.
