Summary: A Great Twist On An Old Standby
Review: I had first bought the Myers book, and thought that it would be enough to get me through, which it pretty much was. I was at a colleague's desk, and she had bought this book, which really blew me away. I'd seen this at the bookstore but thought that the publisher was just trying to repackage some other book and then sell it as a test guide. I was definitely surprised. This book had everything you need to know, and the objectives were followed right along point for point.

I liked the drawings and diagrams on the CD, but didn't really think the questions were too hard. I went ahead and just bought certificationcorner.com's A+ Test Pros, both the hardware and OS versions, and got along just fine.

As you can see from the bio at the beginning of the book, this is from an author who really knows his stuff. It's also a great reference to keep around after you've made it through the exam. I don't know what I'd done without it. Check it out. It's worth every penny of what you pay.

Summary: The Bible for the PC Industry
Review: I have the 11th edition and the 12th edition of this book and it is the BEST book about PC hardware on the planet! Scott Mueller goes into great detail about everything you could possibly fathom concerning PC's. I plan on getting the upcoming 13th edition as well. I've watched the video that came with the 12th edition that I have and it is excellent as well. Even though I am familiar with putting PC's together, most people will still learn information about PC's that they did not know. If you are a beginner with building computers, then this video will be a lifesaver for you! Furthermore, I've had the privilege to speak to Scott Mueller via email and his personality matches his intelligence. That is to say Scott does not have a "god-complex" about him even though he knows more than best of the most knowledgeable people in the industry. If you have a PC and are in the least bit interested in upgrading or building them, then you MUST have this book!

Summary: Not so good
Review: For a 12th edition, I'd expect less errors and more fresh content. The PC has changed more than this book has since the 1st edition. The organization makes finding things a bit hard and the peice meal additions that have occured from edition to edition are very evident. A few technical inaccuracies are also <still> present. There are plenty other choices out there for general PC repair books.

Summary: Mueller Doesn't Just Know, He Knows How to Explain.
Review: This is my fourth copy of "Mueller". He is the best technical writer I have read in any field; and as the PC continues to evolve, he takes on the added mantle of PC historian: If the PC were a guy, it would be like the fellow who continues to dig in one particular place because that's where the light is better-- whether it is a good idea or not.

Mueller explains, in easily understandable language, why the PC is what it is; and goes a long way towards demistifying things like bus speeds, megahertz, differences in processors, hard drives, ROM drives, and even the mechanics of the lowly floppy. An hour with Mueller is like having a knowledgeable friend explain whatever you want to know about PCs in an understanable way. Yet Mueller never loses respect for his readers and never talks down to them. .

Summary: A MUST-HAVE Book for any computer person
Review: This book is a comprehensive approach to repairing and maintaining PC's. Scott's videos on his web site as well as on the CD included with the book are indispensable with their step by step explanations in everyday terms of how to perform some of the most common repair/upgrade tasks. Scott Mueller has provided detailed information and background on every concievable part of a computer. It may be more information than the everyday computer user might ever need for their computer, but if you are into replacing computer parts and upgrading your PC, this is a MUST_HAVE book.

Summary: Well worth the time and effort!
Review: This book is excellent for anyone new to the computer business and really wanting to learn the correct knowledge of computers. One of the best teachings on RAM and motherboard details. A must for anyone serious about learning computers.

Summary: Mueller hits it again - right on the head.
Review: I teach computers and computer repair and determining what text book to use is a tough decision since there are a number of great books to choose from. Scott Mueller 12th edition is certainly on of the best going and this makes the choice even tougher.

Starting off the book with key vendor contacts is only the beginning of what has to be one of the most comprehensive books out there today. Mueller puts a great deal of information in 1625 pages.

Covering motherboards, buses, bios, memory, drives, video, i/o devices, internet, networking, sound cards, printers, scanners, configuration, upgrading, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing there is information for every technician no matter what the level.

Mueller's breakdown of each topic excellent and the information is more than enough to help out anyone. Finally there is a cd-rom included with excellent documentation and a host of utilities that round this package making it on of the best buys going.

Summary: THE PC repair reference for your bookshelf.
Review: The only thing I can say about this book is that it is the best PC hardware reference I've seen. It's great for just that--a reference-- and also great for learning some general concepts about PC hardware and repair. I've got this edition, and will probably buy each new edition that comes along.
