Rating: Summary: Excellent Reference Review: There are certain books which, if you are in the industry, you use to the point where they become dog-eared. This is one of those books. This book is for the serious hobbieist or professional technician, and stands out as one of the most complete texts in its field. It is both thourough and detailed. This is a must have for anyone entering into the field of computer repair.
Rating: Summary: Very informative, a must buy! Review: Covered all relevant topics pertaining to the upgrading and repair of PC's. I found it especially useful in determining what types of hardware to choose when I upgraded my own PC. It has enough technical content to challenge the intermediate user while not putting the advanced user to sleep. I don't recommend this book for a novice. It makes a great reference manual.
Rating: Summary: If you need to know it ALL, it's in Mueller's book Review: I teach a community college course in computer repair technology and have used Mueller's previous editions, but this new 10th edition tops them all. My only criticism: it's HEAVY!
Rating: Summary: BUY THIS BOOK!! Review: I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn about, upgrade, repair, or troubleshoot computers. It is well written and concise with simple explanations of yesterday's, today's, and a short glimpse of tomorrow's technology. This is the second edition of this book I've purchased and it is well worth the price. If you are going to buy any book about computer technology; this is the one!
Rating: Summary: Excellent resource for any and all technician! Review: Best written book so far on the subject with current and much needed source of technical know how on latest PC technology. Unlike Minasi's book, which mostly dealt with old technology under the cover of new edition, this one really covers new technology in this new edition. MUST GET IT!
Rating: Summary: even better then the 8th edition Review: the authors keep everthing current right up to all the new pentium II along with the new chip sets.and one heck of a reference section. The only way they can be more current is to report it live
Rating: Summary: This book quenches the thirst for information. Review: Upgrading & Repairing PC's will give the reader an in-depth comprehension as to the bells and whistles on their system. If they do not have a system, then the user will be amazed at all the easy to understand technical presentations between the covers. The only thing missing in the 8th. Ed. which hopefully will be covered by the 10th. Ed. will be a more intense coverage of the new systems which seem to spring up overnight. This 8th. Ed. will bring the user up to speed...even if you have been out of the loop for awhile. The book presents technical issues in a straight forward and simple to understand format and should be required reading for those in computer science classes or for those who need to more information, that's why I picked it up, I'm building my second computer system.
Rating: Summary: This book is definitly worth purchasing! Review: The first few chapters were excellent. They were to the point. The only problem I found with the book is the dated information Scott sometimes goes into. I mean, it's nice to have some computer history, but i'm interested in repairing computers made in the last 4 years!--not 10 years.
Rating: Summary: I helped edit this book, and it's the best on the market! Review: That's it simply said. I tech edited 5 chapters of the book and am really impressed with the strides forward Scott has made in this edition. I found a lot of the ancient information (ST-506 Hard Drives, 8080 processors, etc.) has been removed or phased out and a lot of new information has been added. This is a MUST for anyone serious about hardware or A+ Certification.
Rating: Summary: Another year, another edition Review: Good book, but if you have any of the previous editions, don't bother. Sorry to see Mueller copy Minasi with video clips. Cute, but not real helpful if my computers busted.
