Rating: Summary: Good book to get your feet wet. Review: If you have never used CF before this is a good book to get you started. Each days lessons are clear and concise, removing any ambiguity other books may create. The end of chapter summaries make a nice review tool allowing you to test your memory about what you have learned. This is probably why Ben Forta endorses this book. Charles Mohnike has filled a niche that seems to be lacking in other books. This is truly a beginners book. While being a good beginner's lesson book, I would not use it as a day-to-day reference book. This is where both of Ben Forta's books shine. I bought this book for one of the members in my team and once he finished with it, it was placed on the bookshelf and ignored. Everyone prefers to use Ben Forta's books as their reference material. As new team members come aboard we give them this book to teach them CF, so we are able to recycle its use continually.
Rating: Summary: It made me cry! Review: If you think that Coldfusion is something like rocket science, you'll be surprised. It is very, very easy to grasp and with Charles Mohnike's book it is also very fun. After reading this book, you'll feel like the sexiest man in a geeks party. I have to say that English is not my native language, but even with this inconvenience, I found the book extremelly easy to follow. The only problem is that it desmitifies Coldfusion and if everybody learns it, you wont look as sexy... Go for it!
Rating: Summary: In from the Cold... Review: If you're an "in the trenches" webmaster, like myself, who has to wear every single digital hat in his/her organization, you can't afford not to buy Sams Teach Yourself ColdFusion in 21 Days. Charles Mohnike deserves triple royalities for this title -- in fact, I wish I could have bought two! The strength of this work is truly in the writing. Mohnike covers the ins and outs of Cold Fusion with well structured, easilly read chapters that teach, test and empower the reader in his/her quest forward to the next topic. Further, the tone of the text, at times quite humorous, has the feel of having your best, code crunching pal next to you the whole step of the way. Translation: It isn't arrogant and presumptive like so many computer training textbooks on the market. But, shucks, that's just rhetoric. The proof is always in the pudding. In a little under 8 weeks, I've used Cold Fusion to build 1 extranet site, an interactive vendor index and an online publishing system for my company's online legal newspaper. The latter project - built using the examples offered in the book - saved us from spending $22,000 for an extremely basic content management system. Any questions?

Rating: Summary: # 1 Book on Learning Cold Fusion and Reference's Review: Move over Ben Forta, Charles has taken the lead on books and the presentation of Cold Fusion, this book is wonderful fantastic and just a great pleasure to read over and over. This book along with the Mastering Cold Fusion are the only books I have. I gave away my other ones to newer people then myself in the Cold Fusion Arena. The Cold Fusion for Dummies is the type of book that you read at the book store, and LEAVE at the book store, it just is NOT worth the money. A freind of mine bought it, and the CD was cracked, took it back and they found out that all the cd's were cracked in all the copies they had on the shelf. Kinda makes you wonder on who is packaging this stuff. JUST BUY THE BOOK!!!!!!!!!! It is worth every cent.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book Review: My first exposure to ColdFusion was an expensive fast-track class. I came away from it shaking my head and wondering if I would be able to do anything with ColdFusion at all. My experience was with web design - I didn't have any database or backend experience at all. After the class, I purchased ColdFusion Studio and this book. Before my 21 days was up, I was impressing myself with what I was able to accomplish with ColdFusion. I'm looking for a book now to take me to the next step, but for a beginner this book is excellent and fun to read.
Rating: Summary: Great tutorial and very funny, too! Review: My only problem with this book was the missing database files, but the publisher (Sams) remedied the problem by posting them to their Web site for download. This book takes a very different approach to CF than Ben Forta's, which for me was a very good thing since I was having trouble understanding Ben's concepts. The Sams book is more of a sit-down-and-learn-it kind of tutorial, while Forta's is more like a reference that's good after you're already up and running with CF. This book is pretty funny too.
Rating: Summary: Good Book For Newbies Review: The author is quite good in explaining things, however there is no CD accompanying the book. According to the technical representative, the samples can be found at http://www.... These are samples, however for a previous version of this book and may or may not work. If you don't want to hassle with this - Don't buy the book!

Rating: Summary: Waste of time Review: The beginning was OK but when it came time to do the tutorials, there were no data files. None on the CD and none on the Sam's website like the book said. I bought this book because I needed a tutorial, not a "book to read" but thanks to the incompetency of the publishers, this so called "tutorial" isn't a tutorial at all. It's a waste of money and a waste of time.
