Rating: Summary: An Excellent Introduction Review: I am an intermediate scientific programmer with no database experience and needed to use Access programmatically. I tried other books but settled on this one when I actually started coding. I needed a broad scope like Dobson's; he includes topics other introductions omit - such as connecting to Excel spreadsheets. I also wanted ADO instructions. I find Dobson's clear, succint style appealing; his examples fit the writing and can be adapted to one's own needs. I bought two.
Rating: Summary: Programmin Microsoft Access 2000 Review: I am what may be described as a 'power user' and have developed a couple of Access applications for my consultancy in the past that were heavily dependent upon macros. Having a requirement for a new extensive application I was keen to adopt a more procedure-orientated approach to its design. I bought this book as a guide and have found the chapters dealing with the introduction to VBA and Access procedures particularly logically in approach and easy to follow. In my experience this is an excellent book for those making the migration from power user to new developer.

Rating: Summary: An Access 2000 programming page-turner. Review: I bought three Access 2000 programming books so I could spend the next few months learning ADO and the new stuff in the 2000 version. Only Dobson's went directly to the point. After going through 1/5th of the book I have done about 30 little procedures, most of them using ADO techniques when appropriate. Imagine the rest...Lot's and lot's of code samples to learn from and explore, I love it! After a brief introduction to VBA, you'll quickly (unlike other books in the same category) explore the ADO new model with practical samples using table, SQL, forms, reports and much more. Highly recommended. Thanks Mr. Dobson.
Rating: Summary: A very good book, but not for beginners! Review: I enjoyed this book very much. The review and explanation of new Access 2000 features are very good, especially the sections on ADO. I recommend this book.

Rating: Summary: Excellent Book for Access Programming Review: I have been teaching Access programming for 4 years. Since I use this book, I have learned a lot, and all of my students love this book. This books has many very valuable examples, also it covers ADO topics in detail. This book impresses me the most is that it covers progmming topics in depth. If you want to learn progmming in Access, this is the right book for you.
Rating: Summary: For Heavy Programming Preperation Review: I have done previous Access databases and this book was the perfect match that told me what NEW features were available and HOW I might want to implement them in Access 2000. The book reviews MSDE and ways to implement a multi-user environment. This is the perfect fit for someone who wants a book with the beef and not introductory material.
