Rating: Summary: Get this Book! Review: I teach Macintosh based design courses, and this is (and has been for the past five years) the standard textbook for my classes. It offers Mac beginners the definitions for all of the "geek speak" terms in language that everyone can understand. It explains how the computer works and offers easy to read text and pictures. Even for advanced users, you will be surprised to dicover the true meaning of the icons and acronyms you have been using all of these years.
Rating: Summary: Perfect for the beginner Review: I used this book when teaching computer classes for Mac and I have to say it is the perfect introduction to the Macintosh. As another reviewer put it, if you only buy one book on the Mac, make it this one. Part One of the book covers "The Basics" and takes you through concepts such as the desktop and finder, the mouse, menus, windows, icons, folders, and more. Part Two continues with more intermediate information regarding the system folder, control panels, aliases, file sharing, and information about hard disk vs. memory (an often confused concept). Part Three covers the Internet, and Part Four contains information about peripherals, some tips and tricks, and also a very helpful section on troubleshooting. One of my favorite things about the book is the large number of pictures showing you how things look on the screen and also her use of bold type to emphasize important terms. There is a little mini quiz at the end of each chapter that is helpful in reviewing what you learned. The book is very well organized and well written in easy to understand language. If you are a more intermediate or advanced Mac user, this isn't the book for you, but beginners should definitely check this one out.
Rating: Summary: Not a review - a question before I buy Little Mac Book. Review: Is "The Little Mac Book" applicable to the I-Mak as well as other Macs? I just got one and need help - will this work?
Rating: Summary: easily understood Review: My sister bought this book for a computer class she had, but I am the one that reads it. I had been using pcs for the longest time and when I switched to macs there were alot of questions I had that I just couldn't find out on my own. This book makes it simple. Any time I have a problem or just want to learn more I pick up the book and I can usually figure it out. One thing I must say about macintosh computers is that the help menu isnt very helpful unless you have an internet connection. My only problem with this book is that it was written during the classic Operating System. So if you plan using classic OS this book is great, but if you have made the move to OSX, you may want to look into getting an OSX book because alot has changed.
Rating: Summary: Every Mac owner must get this book! Review: Simple & elegant, just like the Mac OS, this book has all those really useful tips, tricks, & insights you rarely find in computer manuals. The writing is engaging & friendly, so novice users won't feel overwhelmed, but it doesn't talk down to anyone, so power users won't find it redundant. Get the most up-to-date edition to make sure the latest OS version is covered.

Rating: Summary: Simply the best (and most fun) Mac book around. Review: The Mac, unlike Win-doze machines, feels and operates as if it were almost human. But even human-like machines need friends. That's what Robin Williams is to both the Mac and the novice computer user when the latter opens the informative and fun THE LITTLE MAC BOOK. The author may be a Mac guru, but it's her ability to translate the most confusing concepts and tasks into tasty morsels of information, complete with humor and insight, that makes her book an invaluable aid to anyone booting up a Mac for the first time. Users who posses the basics shouldn't despair that this book isn't for them. They will find a wealth of computing gems, tips, and tricks in this delicious, and deliciously funny, guide to the best computer in the world.
Rating: Summary: excellent for the mac novice Review: this is one book Apple should include with new Macs for new users. enough to help you thru, but that's all the novice needs. But only if you can stomach Robin Williams' (not the comedian) cutesy blathering writing style that is her over-the-top personality. otherwise, she is considered one of the mac experts.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: To the person who asked if this book works for the iMac, yes it does. I am new to Mac, but an experienced Wintel user. I found the book was very useful. I especially enjoyed the section on customizing the Apple menu. I like the author's casual style and I have to say that it was great to read a computer guide written by a woman.
