Rating: Summary: Good Study Guide Review: I used this guide solely to pass the exam and give it five stars for that reason. Like all study guides, this one does not have complete coverage of material for the entire exam. Expect to rely on previous knowledge (also know as educated guessing) for about 20%.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good Study Guide Review: Not the best and most informational study guide I've read to date, but without a doubt the most humerous. Considering the subject matter, design is pretty dry reading, but the dryness was broken up every now and then with subtle attempts at humor. This book will not "pass" the test for you, but it combined with experience should do the trick. My only complaint, be it a small one, is that it's a little short on SNA reference material. Knowing that before I took the test, I did some reading on CCO to fill in some gaps as I've never worked on an SNA network. In closing, I would highly recommend this book if either the test or just needing design knowledge is what you're after.
Rating: Summary: Not enough Review: Poor coverage of SNA and X.25. Also read the Cisco Press CID along side this book.
Rating: Summary: Need other material also Review: Poor coverage of SNA and X.25. Also read the Cisco Press CID along side this book.
Rating: Summary: Good book, but not complete Review: The last couple reviews mentioned it, and I have to concur. This is a good book - well written and one of the few study guides I would consider keeping as a reference. However, it is not complete with regard to the exam. I did pass, and am now a CCDP, but I have to say the book was a little light in a few areas, specifically X.25 and SNA networking.
Rating: Summary: Not Acceptable Review: This book contained many technical errors regarding Windows NT and other desktop solutions. I recommend buying the Cisco Press books. With this book, I failed the CCDP 640-025 test. However, with the Cisco Press book the test was a breeze.
Rating: Summary: Ridiculous Review: This book is not hardly sufficient to pass this test. The SNA section alone is 10-15% of the test, and this book covers nothing that you need on that topic. The ATM and OSPF sections are also sparse. Go with the Cisco Press book if you want to pass. I'm not sure why Lammle's name is even on this book. It seems as if all he wrote was the introduction.
Rating: Summary: Excellent complete resource and CCDP exam guide Review: This book is one of the few books out there that will actually fully prepare you for the very tough and poorly written Cisco CID exam. Take it from me (someone who has passed this exam) this book is a must have to pass the exam. Cisco has not revised this exam in a number of years and the amount of legacy technolgies on the exam will really trip you up. Robert Padjen does a very complete job of covering these technologies. Also by studying this book its been a helpfull introduction to technolgies covered in the CCIE written exam. Thank you Robert . You did a great job!
Rating: Summary: Comprehensive design guide for the real world and for test Review: This well-written book has a broad scope but still provides a lot of detail on a huge array of subjects, ranging from LAN design, remote-access networks, AppleTalk, Windows NT, WAN design, security, etc. The author clearly knows his stuff and writes in a clear and interesting style. The author does a great job of covering the outdated CID material sufficiently for test-takers while providing more up-to-date and real-world advice for actual network designers.
