Summary: What is Good About this Book?
Review: Although only about 300 pages, the book provides a very condense material presentation. It can be read in a matter of hours since the author provides clarity of the language and thoughts, which adds to the ease of understanding the material.

The book is written with a hands-on attitude. As such, little theory is presented but the author does a good job of covering basic concepts.

The book provides shopping lists for hardware and software and price indicators for a wide range of e-commerce system configurations. Clear definition of costs, associated with the implementation of an e-commerce venture provides useful guidelines as to what the related budget should be. This is especially useful information for an initial analysis of the direction a company should choose, in order to succeed with an e-commerce project.

In short, the book is a good primer of the target audience: small business managers contemplating taking part of their business on-line.

Summary: This book is a joke !
Review: As a (non-IT) executive of an established brick & mortar retailer which is about to start selling online, I wanted to get a god practical understanding of the many issues related to e-commerce. I bought 3 books, and this one I threw away after wasting on it 2 hours, when I realized I still had not learned one single thing I already didn't know.
The author's hands-on understanding of the matter is clearly insignificant, and the writing style is that of a consultant: if you take away all the buzzwords and the over-used retorical phrases, hardly any content is left.
If you are looking for a PRACTICAL overall guide about e-commerce, buy "Selling Online" by Jim Carroll & Rick Broadhead.

Summary: ¿Best of Breed¿ on thisTopic!
Review: Excellent book! I consult in the area of Internet/Technology start-up development and marketing from the heart of Silicon Valley for clients world wide and read this well written book to glean a deeper insight into the internal workings from a deeper technology perspective (for the nuts and bolts), than what I am usually exposed to and was very pleased by both the material coverage and presentation. I simply do not have much time to read but I took the time to read this important book over a few nights as it directly relates to being successful on the net. Few books I have read have had more direct impact on my overall understanding of a topic.

Unlike most books in this particular space that I have skimmed/read, this book is not dry or long-winded. The coverage length of each topic is in relation to its importance and is wide enough to give you the connections between the subtopics to make sense of e-commerce. I have spent many hours looking for a book that covered this topic without taking either the "Dummy" or "Idiot" attitude on the low-end or the boring academic text on the high-end.

This book exceeded my expectations and I would suggest it to industry professional and first-time netrepreneur alike. In my opinion, this is the "Best of Breed" book and plan on suggesting its reading in an intern program I am leading at a well-known Silicon Valley business school. If I could only have one book on the topic of e-commerce - this would be it. Good work!

Summary: A book that will have many dog-eared pages
Review: I just finished reading this book from cover to cover. I thought I would never understand the technology encompassing e-commerce. I was wrong, this book is great, it's one of those books that's going to get a lot of wear and dog-eared pages from constant use. If you really want to get the lowdown on the technology needed for to run a first class e-commerce site then this is the book for you.

Summary: Great Book
Review: I just started working in with Internet related issues that last year or so and have struggled mightily with the technology, but no more. This is a great book, not only for someone building a Web site but also for anyone working in the Internet environment: executives, managers, sales and marketing or like me, an attorney who suddenly found a need to understand what was going on in cyberspace.

Summary: I now have the confidence to be a web-peneur
Review: I've been interested in operating an e-commerce site for quite some time now but hesitated because I didn't want to fail. Even after reading more than 20 books on operating Web sites I still didn't know if I could do it. Then I bought this book. It's great! The author actually tells you everything -- marketing, search engines, maintenance, customer service and fulfillment. The book is really a blueprint (and a great glossary so you don't get lost) at least that is what the author calls it, to building and operating a Web site. With this easy to read and understand book in hand I'm joining the ranks of the web-peneurs.
