Rating: Summary: The MUST-HAVE for any serious photographer moving to digital Review: 1. It makes a lot sense to print a Photoshop book in colour. You can see the effects of the examples. Apart from the "Wow!" book, this is the only other book I'm aware of printed entirely in colour.2. Very well organised tutorials. You can easily search for the topics you want. 3. Teach you Photoshop from a photographer's perspective. (eg. zone system) Photoshop is so big and addresses the needs of a diverse categories of users. "Artistry" is geared mainly towards photographers.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: After purchasing and returning another book, that was very disappointing, see "Photo Retouching with Adobe Photoshop" by Gwen Lute, I went looking in bookstores for different books on photoshop. After an exhausting day of looking I discovered this fantastic book. The more I read, and the more examples I work through, the better it gets. Very good examples, easy to follow, very thorough, in colour, not recommended for the very beginner, but a very professional, and enjoyable read.
Rating: Summary: This book changed my life - for the better Review: Almost a year ago, I fell into a downward spiral. I was laid off from my job; my wife divorced me; Monday Night Nitro lost the ratings. Yes, things weren't so good for me. To pass the time I used Photoshop 5 Artistry to fool around with. After three months I was creating mind blowing images. An ad executive from Park Avenue took notice. He refered me to a friend of a friend who is doing the marketing for the new X-Men Movie next Summer. Well I am pleased to anounce I am on the marketing team that handles that account. Thank you, Photoshop 5 Artistry.
Rating: Summary: Photoshop 5 artistry Review: Although I really enjoy the writing style of Photoshop 5 Artistry, I have tried to follow the step by step instructions and found them a bit boring. I also used the earlier edition for Photoshop 4 and maybe its because I'm a bit right brained (read artistic) I have difficulty following front to back in this book.

Rating: Summary: Useful book for digital photographers Review: As digital photography becomes more widespread photoshop and similar programs will be used by new users, not only those working with design/layout/publishing but also photographers and artists. Photoshop is not one of the simplest programs to cope with, it has become large and complex, "Photoshop 5 & 5.5 Artistry" manages to go through many different techniques used in Photoshop work. As a former researcher in image processing I am not the usual reader, but I do find it very valuable and comprehensive. It may not be a book you read from cover to cover, you will probably return to it as a handbook searching for information about something you want to do with an image. The book is thorough and deep, it contains a lot of information, and don't skip this book just because it concerns version 5.5 while photoshop v7 is out, the book is still valid in everything except the graphics of photoshops various dialogs and interfaces. The theory and methods of working are valid for any program. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: Everything and anything you wanted to know about Adobe Photoshop 5 can be find within this book. I can't wait for Photoshop 5.5 Artistry, if such a book will exist.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book for combining photography and photoshop! Review: Excellent book! I recommend it to photographers who want to add that little extra touch to their photos. Even if you are not a professional photographer or graphic designer you will find that the techniques explained in the book are very good.
Rating: Summary: Best of the best Review: Great for advance users to photoshop and those serious in photoshop, you would need to have some basic experience in photoshop 5 in order to skip to the more intresting parts of the book. Extreamly well written examples, easy to follow steps and photos with description. I have worked with photoshop for over four years. and this is the only photoshop book i keep beside my bed and read before i sleep. The best desktop refrence i have seen.!
Rating: Summary: Somewhat useful, but not worth the full price paid Review: I am a college student studying multimedia. This is my second semester in photoshop, and this is the main book for the class. Sorry that this is the case. I found the book only useful in the included cd art, and since the author constantly touted Deke McClelland and his book-- I followed suit. I used Deke's Photoshop 5 book to help me learn more advanced techniques, and to clear up the vague or missing explanations in this book. Deke offered a clearer and more detailed explanation of the various possiblities in Photoshop. If you want to really know how to use this program avoid this book--unless someone gives it to you. Go to Deke's. I must admit the book does have some good ideas and hints. It is not a total waste of time, but really does need to have a companion book to help in its teaching/learning curve that is associated with Photoshop.
