Rating: Summary: Lacks on carefulness Review: This book is an easy to follow manual on HTML 4, even containing some interesting items that go beyond it. A major problem however is the number of inconsistencies made by the author which annoyed me no end. These are not printing errors since the author clearly acts against her own rules. The next edition should be checked thoroughly, this time by an editor having some basic knowledge on what this book is all about.
Rating: Summary: Good book for reference! Review: This book is good for reference. The author explained very clear about HTML and also give an idea about how to design you web page but CGI,DHTML,and JavaScript is not enough. If you want to learn about HTML 4,this is the book for you but you won't get much on script language.
Rating: Summary: Good explanation. But lack colorful support examples. Review: This book is very good for beginners. However, you must be patient reading the book, then you'll find out many interesting things. Not recommended for Intermediate web designers. If you haven't known HTML, then this is the book. I would give this book 5 stars if there'are some practical visual examples, because to me, good web sites attract people because of its visual effects.
Rating: Summary: All You Need Review: This book taught me all that I needed to know in order to create my own website and maintain it. It contains far more information than the beginning site designer will ever need to know, but is very handy nonetheless. After finishing this book, I was ready to start learning JavaScript and XML. It contains an HTML reference guide and is an excellent introduction for the beginner as well as a useful reference guide for the expert.
Rating: Summary: Great for learning, great for reference! Review: This book was recommended by a close friend who wanted me to learn HTML so I could do some work for his Web Publishing company. Well, I went through it in less than two weeks and was ready to go to work! The book is written simple-to-understand, but gives enough technical information to keep you interested long after you've learned HTML. As far as reference goes, you can't get much more complete. I keep this book close at hand to look up the various HTML commands and how to use them. The book teaches cascading style sheets, tables, forms, basic javascript, and the new version even includes coverage on XHTML! The main author, Laura Lemay, writes in a style that is not condescending, and her humor is not forced. It's almost as if your friend were teaching you this stuff. I would definitely recommend this book, especially the new 3rd edition! P.S. If this book seems to advanced, I would also recommend HTML Goodies (just see the website as an example)...
Rating: Summary: I was impressed.. Review: This book wins kudos for honesty of title: I really believe you could work through it at a chapter a day, and teach yourself pretty much everything you needed to know about HTML and web site design. I started with some programming background, but absolutely no HTML, and using this book was able to design and implement two different web sites, granted both fairly simple, but not trivial, either, and entirely hand-coded. The book covers the basics of just about every aspect of web design, with pointers to how to obtain more in-depth information on advanced topics (graphics, scripting...), if you need it. Probably most people will skip some chapters (I skipped Java and Java Script, for example), but they're there to go back to, if you need them later. Best of all, the book is well written. The presentation is well organized, and the writing is clear and direct.

Rating: Summary: Good step by step introduction for basic HTML Review: This is *the* text for new html authors to be systematically introduced to writing simple web pages, with plenty of examples to try your hand as you learn. ->Though there are great free on-line resources<-, if you need a book to get started, this is it. Today web publishing goes beyond writing HTML, but the text covers the HTML part well. It could provide richer information on HTML color selection, and brushes over working with image files and backgrounds. (topics for future books) It provides enough information to put up a fine personal web page, emphasizes good design, and covers the basics well.
Rating: Summary: A great book for beginners and experts Review: This is a great book for anyone wether you're a beginner or an expert. Chock full of 762 pages of info for HTML 4. It talks about everything in HTML 4 that you could ever want. It has a easy to use quick reference section for quick reference obviously. It also has step by step guides for beginners who know absolutely nothing. You will need no other book on HTML if you get this one!!!
Rating: Summary: Good for beginners Review: This is good book for beginners.Examples & illustratinos are good.Theory is quite descriptive. But it is not that good for Dynamic HTML,CGI SCRIPT & JavaScript.
