Rating: Summary: Good way to learn HTML Review: Before reading this book I always had to search for web pages that did something like I wanted and then copy the source. Then I would have to spend time figureing out how to change things to the way I wanted. It was often time consuming and anoying. After reading this book I know enough about HTML to go from concept to implementation of a web site without wasting so much time. Also, when I see a cool web page I can look at the source code and understand it and focus in on the part that I am interested in quickly. I entered in every example in the book. At times I felt like I would never get through a chapter because most of them were so long. But it was worth it. The CDROM was missing some of the images and animations that are used in the examples. Also, the chapter on JavaScript didn't mention that you can see what errors you have in your javascript by typing :javascript in the location part of the netscape browser. This pops up a window that shows all the errors the interpreter found. It seems like this is pretty usefull information that should have been included. I also thought that most of the examples were kind of boring. My favorite chapter was the one on imagemaps. I also liked the gif animator and paint shop pro tools that came on the CDROM The book did a good job in teaching me HTML and I am definately glad I bought it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: Excellent book, I highly reccomend it. I went from not knowing thing one about HTML to writing web pages that are like the ones that I see on the web while surfing. I also finished this book in substantially few days than 21 days, approx. 8 days but I put in quite a bit of time and I did work every example and exercise. GET THIS BOOK.
Rating: Summary: This is the best HTLM Book! ************** Review: Forget about all the other books teaching html 4.0, This is the only book you will need on html. I own many books on html and I'd trade them all for this book. I'd not take $5000.00 for my copy unless I could replace it. I made the mistake of buying teach yourself Visual Basic in 21 days and it is the worst book on Visual Basic. Just because this book on html is so good, don't buy other sams teach yourself in 21 day books. They are not all good books. But this teach yourself html 4.0 in 21 days should have ten thousand stars. Elijah Gwinn, Webmaster: www.angel7.org Olympia, Wa.
Rating: Summary: A good book on HTML4 Review: Good but basic book for the new beginer. A lot of examples are given, as well as clear explanations to do with the history of Web development, and the reasons for why things are done the way they are. The book is also a useful reference, and is still useful - even after finishing reading.
Rating: Summary: Another satisfied customer Review: Here it is in brief: I didn't know the first thing about posting a web page or html. A friend recommended this book to me. With the help of this book, I have led a team at my church in the development of our own site. Since February, we have made a lot of progress, but I have personally coded almost every page. Thank you Laura Lemay!
Rating: Summary: Very exciting, worth of time and money book Review: HTML is one of the easiest computer languages in the world, yet setting on top of technology and market demand. If you are seeking a book that: * Is written in a way to help you schedule your progress in this topic, * Supported by a very long-experienced publisher on IT topics, * Written by a power and experienced author who wrote variety of editions on this topic, * Focuses on the future and gets you really prepared for up-coming technologies like XHTML, * Provides you with important links and references, * In-depth description of do and don'ts with full carefully illustrated examples; Then this book of around 1200 pages is for you. However, nothing in this world is complete, I wish they include the following topics/features in future releases: * Coverage on using HTML for none web applications (e.g. CD authors ... etc), * Enough definition on topics like XML, how does it look like and why many professionals use it? * Elemetary description of database linkage; e.g. What database technologies/products to use when shifting to database? what capabilities are expected from different-size-motivated databases (When shall I say: MS-Access is far enough, when shall use MS-SQL, Oracle or My-SQL instead)?, I think 10 to 20 pages will be worth enough for this point. * Defining what clearly-alarming technologies like ASP and JSP are for? * Introducing E-Commerce revolution. * More help in solving problems while publishing on the web, like positioning on the search engines which all new webmaster faces. The functionality of META tags on this subject must be clearly on-focused. * Art and contents on the CD should be improved and brought to a level of satisfaction. Many thanks, and sorry about my difficult English, I never had been to an English-speaking country, I just learn from people like Lemay:), whithout the Internet we would never hear about books like this at all!
Rating: Summary: Please proofread Review: I am on day 12. I came to the book with enough ability to create a web page but I needed to expand my knowledge and fill in bits I did not know. So far the book has proven its worth. However, it needs to be proofread. About half way through the book and I lost track of how many typos there are. That is really unprofessional and undermines a reader's confidence in what otherwise is a really good resource.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book about HTML for Beginners Review: I bought this book to help sharpen my HTML skills for a web site project that I am currently working on for my Master's Degree. Luckily, I made a great choice, because this book has helped me further develop my understanding of HTML in a very short timespan. I use this book more than the textbooks that our instructor assigned to us. I highly recommed the book to anyone looking for a book that can teach them HTML in less than a month. I found the book easy to read, full of great examples, and very well suited to use as a reference guide. You will find yourself quickly building web publishing skills starting with the very basics, then moving on to tougher subject like using frams, inserting multi-media, creating forms, and other useful topics. My own personal copy is rough around the edges because I have used it so much during my project. If you are looking for an easy way to learn a lot about HTML, but don't have the time or money to spend on a class, I recommend that you purchase this book. It is money well spent for those looking to expand your web publishing skills.
Rating: Summary: Great book - very concise! Review: I didn't know anything about web publishing with HTML before I read this book. I picked it up because I saw it for 40% off the list price and I know the "Teach Yourself .. in 21 days" books have a pretty good reputation. This book is excellent! I finished it in 6 days - it covered all the basics and even went into some Javascript! If you are looking for a good beginner's book then look elsewhere but if you are looking for a great beginner's book for HTML, buy this book!
