Rating: Summary: Great book, just not for 70-100 Review: I'll admit, the book is very good. Well writen, the majority covers the Microsoft's version of how to develop software using iterative releases, testing, release etc. Snuck in the middle are several chapters about Microsoft technologies (e.g. COM+).While the book is pretty good reading, it has absolutely nothing to do with the 70-100 test. Transcender and a book about database modeling is more usefull (Look up Toby Teory's book about Database Design)
Rating: Summary: Excellent book, not for exam 70-100 Review: I've read this book carefully to take exam 70-100. The book material is excellent. The material comes from actual experience and real world scenarios. Read this book if you need to know software developement process and software life cycle (amazing material),....but don't buy it to pass exam 70-100.
Rating: Summary: Great book but not tied to real exam Review: If I used only this book to prepare for the exam, I would certainly fail. However, it's a great book if you want to learn something about methodologies and concepts used in designing big, "real world" solutions. Off course, from the Microsoft point of view. The book's main buzzword is MSF. Besides learning about it theorethically, you can see how it can be applied in "real world" situation by following a single but big case study about imagined Chicago based company that adopted MSF in order to solve some business problems. If you are a developer but you've never looked at the software project from the big perspective, after reading this book you will probably wish to.
Rating: Summary: Passed exam with 920 Review: If you know the SDLC and DB normalization, this book should be an easy read. I did luck out because I started training for 70-100 immediately after courses in DBMS and Systems Analysis & Design, so this book just expanded on those classes. To solidify everything, I read the book twice, and also referenced the Exam Cram Architectures book (ISBN 1576103781) and transcender.com. For those that have no work experience (like me), the case study throughout the book is invaluable. Some reviews say that there is nothing about MSF, but it's the basis of the whole book! It actually goes into much more detail than the exam. One area the book does lack is data modeling. If you have a hard time with this, you'll be a sitting duck in the exam. Transcender.com is a good reference for this.

Rating: Summary: Not the way to pass the exam Review: If you're goal is to pass the 70-100 exam, this book is useless. Use transcender! I read all of the 600+ pages but it was a waste of my time. A lot of information is being repeated over and over until your head spins. The book might be usefull if you plan a project according to the microsoft solution framework. But again, to pass the exam you'd better use your common sense, know your way with database design and practice with transcender
Rating: Summary: This book + Exam cram + Transcender Review: Just passed this exam with a good score. I have read/looked through almost all existing books for 70-100. Two books really help: this one and exam cram. This book covers a lot of theory and extra information but answers many questions like web authentication, security, etc. Exam cram just has similar questions with the real exam (especially those little pieces of text marked as "Tips" and "Alert"). And, of course, Transcender is a MUST! Several cases there are almost identical to the cases in a real exam. Just a little simpler than the real ones. Following note is just my opinion: around 70% of exam is about database (tables, relations, primary/foreign keys, attributes, normalization, etc.) Without good experience in it no one book will help to pass the exam.
Rating: Summary: Good material, very thorough and detailed Review: Lots of information is provided that can help you prepare for the exam (such as pros/cons of technologies to use, design methods to implement, security issues etc). However, I have used the book selectively as not all the information related is relevant to pass the test (especially concentrate on Ch7-11). Another book to supplement is "Test Success", as it will also give you a good view of what exam will cover. After I passed the test, in addition to two books mentioned above, you do need 1-2yrs of experience in software design (especially, data modeling) to pass, lots of concentration, and yes, do use up all the time you need. Don't rush through the exam. The book will definitely stay on our shelf to be referenced in the engagments to come to help the client design the system correctly. But, again, not all info in the book is needed to pass the test.
Rating: Summary: wasted days and wasted nights Review: spent studying this book to pass exam 70-100. Good material in the book, but no resemblance to material covered in exam 70-100. Recommend transcender tests and 'MCSD Test Success' books instead.
Rating: Summary: I stand amazed..... Review: that so many people are missing the point. If you're looking for a book that will give you the answers to the questions you'll get on the 70-100 test, this isn't the book for you. However, if you want to understand the concepts required to pass the test, there isn't a better book out there. Scott has done a great job of teaching the correct way to design a solution using the MSF models. Microsoft is wanting to certify Solution Developers, not just code-bangers. A good Solution Developer must know these concepts. This book isn't a brain dump. In fact, you might have to use your brain. This book will equip you with the skills you need to handle this test.
