Rating: Summary: I think this book is great! Review: I've looked at alot of books aimed at teaching web design to beginners. Usually, they go into way too much detail and you can't remember a thing you've read! This book teaches you HTML in small, bite size chunks that you can retain. The book also provides quiz's and activities that reinforce what you've read. You can only learn by doing! I highly recommend this book for beginners!
Rating: Summary: Horrible book that barely touches on HTML 4 Review: This book is actually an HTML 3.2 book and it lightly touches on the subject of stylesheets, an essential counterpart to HTML 4. I would be happy if this book was renamed to "Teach Yourself HTML 3.2 and Proprietary Tags in 24 Hours".
Rating: Summary: I actually created a web site in 24 hrs. Review: I knew nothing about HTML, I just got my computer and a week later I got this book, the following day I had my personal page on the web.
Rating: Summary: A "5-star" Book for Beginners Review: This book is simply written and provides adequate information and examples for the HTML beginner. The examples are very helpful, although additional examples on the more complex issues discussed would've been helpful. The book can really be used to learn enough HTML in 24 hours of dedicated study to post your first web site. This is all you need to get started!
Rating: Summary: The new improved 3rd edition is now available. Review: Please be sure to get the new 3rd edition here at Amazon.com instead of this old edition. And be sure to read my author comments over at the 3rd edition page, too.Meanwhile, thanks to all the readers who've sent me praise about this book. Out of 1,200 reader comments that I've gotten through e-mail, only one reader didn't like it. There's nothing like dozens of messages of glowing praise in your email box every morning for a year to make an author's head swell in that oh-so-pleasant sort of way!
Rating: Summary: Over 1,200 people helped me write this book. Review: I didn't write this book. Well, not all of it at least. The most important parts came from readers like you. More than 1,200 of the tens of thousands of people who bought the first and second editions of this book sent me email with questions, praise, and criticism. Mostly praise, I humbly confess. But also hundreds of helpful suggestions as to where you needed that little extra hint, what went wrong when you thought you'd done it right, and which topics you wanted me to cover in more depth. Only through the Internet could an author ever get so much invaluable, detailed feedback. I've tried to make every bit of it count. Reader feedback has influenced all the changes I made for this edition. Every sample Web page in this edition is new, and the accompanying Web site (24hourHTMLcafe.com) now contains more than 250 online examples for you to explore, modify, and reuse. The Q&A sections in each chapter answer real questions from real readers, and the Quiz and Exercise sections reinforce exactly those points with which readers needed the most help. I've reorganized and rewritten many of the lessons to make them even easier to follow, and presented the information you most urgently need earlier in the book. Best of all, this edition includes completely new coverage of cutting-edge topics like Dynamic HTML, using JavaScript to add up forms and create interactive animation, and making your pages appear most prominently on all the major Internet search sites. And these more advanced topics are presented in the same good-humored, plain-English, beginner-friendly style that made earlier editions of this book nonstop bestsellers. Jim Seymour, editor-in-chief of PC Magazine, called the first edition, "The best of many introductions I've seen," and readers tell me they agree. Please let me know what you think of the book and how you'd like me to make the next edition even better still!
Rating: Summary: A quick, definitive look at the basics in HTML Review: If you want a fast, no-nonsence guide to HTML basics, this is a really great book. I found this 24 hour guide to be comprehensive, yet to-the-point. It leads you in easy to swallow segments, and you will feel you have a grasp on what each mini subject entails. I found it to be a good, basic starting point for HTML information, and recommend it for all beginners!
Rating: Summary: Great for beginners, but that's all Review: When I picked this book up, I didn't know much HTML, it teaches in a good manner, not trying to overload you with to much at one time. Mr. Oliver does a good job of keeping you laughing through out the book. Also, the section on Gif animator was great. Though....this book will teach you the very basics of HTML, no more. You will have to go out and get more advanced books and start to learn how tables can postion graphics and text extremely well etc... But for the beginner, you can't go wrong.
Rating: Summary: Everything you need to jump start in web publishing! Review: A concise and easy-to-read compilation for starters. Eliminates your fear and apprehension about web publishing in just couple of hours!
Rating: Summary: This is a great book for beginners! Review: I really enjoyed this book for 2 simple reasons, the two authors are very good and funny, and it takes you through HTML one step at a time, with easy summary at the end of each chapter. The authors' quick wit, and definitive style make this a great book for begginers, it says 24 hours, but you don't put this book down, and they explain it to well, it's more like 6 hours!
