Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Learn HTML 4 in Less Than 24 Hours With This Book! Review: Dick Oliver presents us with nothing but practical information on HTML in his book, "Sams Teach Yourself Html 4 in 24 Hours." He starts the book out with an introduction to HTML, what it stands for and how one uses it. Then, he moves on to basic manipulation techniques of words and characters within webpages, such as techniques on how to give a word or phrase a boldface type and how to change the font color of a word or phrase. Oliver goes into details with the more advanced techniques of HTML, such as using frames, tables, and layers. He also touches on a good deal of Javascript. Within 24 hours, a good reader and student should be able to learn everything they need to know on making webpages and websites by hand. Although software, such as, Microsoft Frontpage, makes it possible for you to design good webpages without knowing the basics of HTML, you would feel prouder knowing that you understand the coding that these website building software produce....to go along with this book.

Everything was kept simple and any software needed (like Paintshop Pro) can be downloaded for free while going through the lessons. Most of all it was fun! I know I'm not an expert in Web page design or even HTML, but I'm satisfied I received a good introduction to the subject matter and feel capable of going on if I choose. I wish all "Sam's teach yourself ..." books were written like this one.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This is a great book...you must have it. Review: I wanted to learn HTML very quick and this book made it. This book covers the most important and popular tools that a good Web Page needs to have such us Animation, Forms, Style Sheets, Tables, Check Boxes, Radio Buttons, Selection Lists, Text Areas, Frames and so on. Also, this book is very easy to read, English is my second language and I did not have any problems understanding it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Beginning Masterpiece Review: At the ripe old age of 15 I read this book and began to even think in HTML in 24 days. This book is not only an excellent teacher but also an excellent reference book. I have moved on to Java (which proved to advanced for me), ASP (better understood but still fuzzy) and now XHTML which allows you to place elements where ever you want unlike the static HTML. So if you plan to advance yourself go to XHTML.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Best beginner's guide out there! Review: This is a fantastic guide for HTML newbies. It starts at the most basic point and gives you a foundation full of useful examples. Later in the book it has chapters to whet your appetite for more advanced topics. I bought this some time ago and although I don't need most of the information any more, I still keep it around for an easy reference book. If you are new to creating web pages, you can't do much better for a starting point.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Best HTML book out there Review: I've browsed a few HTML books, and this book is by far the easiest to understand and it keeps you interested. The web site that Dick oliver created to show you examples that are in the book is awesome. I just can't say enough about this book it is just wonderful. If you want to learn HTML this is the roadmap.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Good beginner book. Review: Pro's: Good for the person who has not touched HTML at all, but has the ability to learn outside the classroom. Explains things in very basic, easy to understand terms. Covers a wide array of topics. Cons: Examples are quite basic. All web pages that you write are almost too basic in structure. The student will leave with a good conceptual knowledge of HTML, but not a good working knowledge. The book assumes some knowledge of graphics, but quickly glances over it. You might need Sams TY Photoshop5.5 in 24 hours for more. From here: You need some desire to start creating web pages if you want to turn your knowledge into working talent. Also pick up a copy of a HTML refrence...like The Complete refrence, HTML second edition, Powell/ Osborn. When you have to create many pages...you'll need much more than the STYHTMLin 24 has to offer.
