Rating: Summary: cgi101 - excellent Review: Jacqueline D. Hamilton wrote an excellent book which simply and succintly ties many perl concepts togeather; it is a must read ( I think it was Oscar Wilde who wrote he did not have the time or the patience to keep his literature as short or as clear as he wished - Jacqueline has both). Please let us know what other books Jacqueline has ( or has plans to write ).
Rating: Summary: Not the greatest intro to CGI programming. Review: Not the greatest intro to CGI programming. Typos, inconsistencies in the example programs. Doesn't adequately explain some methods/statements. Completely turned me off on PERL. I'm still looking for a good book on this subject.
Rating: Summary: Great for Beginning Perl Programmers Review: The 101 in the title says it all. This is a great book if you have never done any CGI or Perl programming. It will give you the basics very quickly and you will be writing your own scripts within the first few pages. Also covers more advanced topics. Its great for reading to familarize yourself with Perl and also good for reference. I found the organization of the book to be somewhat lacking and the index isn't the best, but it still gets 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: Loses values after first 40 pages Review: The first 40 pages are useful to give you the sense of how CGI functionality is implemented in Perl. However by staying away from the most used standard Perl module for CGI programming (i.e. the CGI module) except for a few pages towards the end, the reader is ill served (because they have to buy a book to get the real work done).
