Summary: Review by Laurie Ulrich, author, trainer, and web designer
Review: "Build Your Own Web Site" is a truly exceptional book, filled with practical examples, great advice, and a world of knowledge that readers will not find in too many places that are this accessible and well-presented. Having written my own book on web design, I know that there is no substitute for experience, knowledge, and a trainer's gift for sharing them with an audience - and David Karlins has all three in spades. I heartily recommend this book to anyone who wants to confidently stake out their own space on the web.

Review: "Build Your Own Website" is a comprehensive guide and reference, necessary for anyone who is considering getting into the website arena. The easy to follow, step-by-step instructions make the entire website production very manageable. The book covers every useful web feature, such as forms, searches and hit counters, as well as very valuable "tips of the trade". I will refer it to my clients to help them create content, flow charts, and understanding search engine marketing.

Summary: A very well organized book
Review: Build Your Own Web Site has something for everyone. This is an impressive book in that it completely demystifies the process of building a web site from A to Z. There are few books that truly begin at the beginning and discuss a wide variety of web tools; this makes web design accessible to everyone. It also simplifies the process for those who want to spend most of their time focusing on core competencies, rather that fighting through the labyrinth of developing and maintaining a web site. With a minimum of confusion, a novice can navigate the necessary steps required to build and maintain a presence on the web. In addition, independent web contractors will find this a useful guide since different companies often use the various web tools presented in this book and require their contractors to do the same. I was very impressed with the amount of knowledge packed into one volume. It is well written, well organized and very approachable. I will keep this book on the shelf as a personal reference, and I will recommend it to my students.

Summary: Wonderful Resource for Building A Website!
Review: Build Your Own Website by David Karlins is a wonderful book. If you would like to create your own website, this book provides you with the important information from what is a domain, what you need to know and what services you may need for web hosting. He reviews some software for web design and gives you the pros and cons of the software and examples on how to use them. He covers how to optimize your site for search engines and how to submit your site to search engines. He also provides many tips and URL's that you can go to for additional information and where you can find free scripts to use in your website. David's own website provides useful reference material.

I would encourage members of small local organizations who would like to have their own website on a low budget to read this book. As a member of some small non-profit organizations, I have created two websites and am maintaining three websites. You do not have to be a computer professional to do this. I wish that I had this book a couple of years ago because it would have saved me time and effort digging out this information from other sources.

Summary: Extremely helpful book
Review: I spent hours scouring the shelves for a book like
this, but could never find one-- until now. Build Your Own Web Site offers exactly the kind of step-by-step instruction non-techies need to put together a successful site, start to finish. Most web design books assume too much knowledge on the part of their readers. This one offers practical, easy-to-understand advice on issues such as how to obtain a domain name-- and other topics that can strike fear into the hearts of computer phobes. Wondering whether you need to learn HTML? Or what the heck a web-safe color is, anyway? It's all here in David Karlins' wonderfully straightforward book.
