Summary: This was a book well worth my money.
Review: I am newer to the ATMEL AVR and wanted to get some information about it before I started putting large sums of money into development tools. This book was very well written and put into a plain and understandable explanation of the different aspects of the AVR. After reading this book I was confident in knowing that I would be investing in my future in a positive manner by learning the ATMEL AVR line of microcontrollers. If you have some experience with micros and are newer to the AVR, or if you just want to learn more, I would highly recommend this book!!

Summary: Not worth the money
Review: I have to agree with the last review. This book just recycles the Atmel data. It's also out of date and doesn't include the newer parts or tools. The author doesn't provide good information for a novice, he doesn't provide many code examples and he doesn't expand on what's already available from Atmel or make it any more understandable. The author assumes you already know embedded programming but doesn't really help you migrate from other microcontroller families to AVR. Most people would be better off with an Atmel data book. Also, I don't believe English is the author's first language and that shows through as well. Anyone wanting to use the AVR parts needs to realize they're very thinly supported (especially here in the USA) compared to most other microcontrollers.

Summary: Nothing new above Atmel's PDFs
Review: I've read this book and think it wasn't worth its price. Author didn't provide more information nor code examples than AVR datasheets and application notes written by Atmel. A half of this book contains descriptions of integrated environments for AVR micros - C, Pascal and Basic. This part was the least interesting for me. But maybe others can find it useful.

Summary: A poor rewrite of the Atmel AVR Databook
Review: Save your money. The Atmel AVR Databook will give you just as much detail. This book contains errors relating to the instruction set of the micro. e.g. the LPM instruction is shown to be in the AT90S1200 instruction set. It is not!. I belive Mr Kuhnel should rewrite the book to correct the errors, bring the book up to date and give some detail on how to use the AVR processor in some depth. Overall I was very dissapointed.

Summary: A good summary and introduction to the popular AVR micros
Review: The book is a good overview of the AVR. The instructions are explained carefully, so is the hardware. The most important information from the databook are included which gives you all documents you need in one book. However, more updated datasheets are available on the Atmel WEB page . The book does introduce different development tools available. Due to the rapidly increase of AVR tools in the worldwide market the book covers a subset. Worth the money for those who want a quick start.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good source of information on the AVR MCU and related tools
Review: This book contains a lot of good information on the AVR MCU in one place. About ninety percent of the book is recitation of specifications and otherwise available documentation. A subsequent revision should contain corrections for the numerous typos and should include more hands on information from the author using and applying the AVR. If you want to get started quick buy the book now! If you prefer surfing the web you will eventually find most of the information yourself.
