Mr. Vacca has once again produced a very accessible yet easily readable tome on the dangers and promise of satellite encryption. Pick it up and you'll learn about or government policies regarding satellite communications management and security. By the time you put it down, you'll understand everything from pagers to the electronic battlefield. It's a must-read!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Technically detailed, and great reading as well
Review: As always, John Vacca provides an incredible level of detail in a readable manner. The Internet implications are particularly applicable to almost any reader. In our case, where the line-of-sight constraints of radio transmission in our wireless WANs are forcing us to look at satellite options, this book is an invaluable resource. And the tales told herein about encryption break-ins and techniques make fascinating reading in their own right.

Technical from orbit to chip, and immensely readable as well!

Summary: Great book
Review: Great book - detailed and technical, but still a good read

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This is an A++ book about satellite encryption
Review: Highly recommended!

Mr. Vacca's book, Satellite Encryption, is a must read for anyone. *Every* aspect of our life is affected by the new information age and how satellites are (un)able to provide reliable communications though encrypted pathways. Satellite technology now affects Internet, banking, personal communications (e.g. phone, pager) as well as our governmental infrastructures.

Detailed and highly accurate information is well described in this book and will surely be the core material for Tom Clancy's future techno novels. Mr. Vacca provides an expose of the susceptibilities of our satellite systems like no one else has.

I have read a few of Mr. Vacca's other publications, and like the others, this book is a jewel because very practical implementation information is provided. In particular, Part three, "Implementing Satellite Encryption", is fascinating reading to understand how end to end data flows in various satellite systems.

This books is very easy to read and the examples in the sidebars are excellent. The last chapters provide sobering insight into the future and what steps should be done to assure a viable future for this technology. The warfare implications are challenging and scary. Great reading.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Not for those interested in Cryptography
Review: I think that the tittle of this book is a bit misleading. If one reads through all the enthusiastic reviews of the book one can actually get a clear picture of what it is about. It is a general overview of politics of encryption with some technical information included in between. I cannot understand the reason for more than one hundred pages of information about different types of military equipment. Yes, this book is interesting but it is not about cryptography and encryption. These subjects are only a small part of the book. I returned Satellite Encryption after very thorough consideration.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Enlighting, very informative and thought provoking !
Review: John Vacca has put together a vivid presentation on the subject. Our future communication security is dependent on secure Satellite Encryption. This book presents Satellite Encryption, it's many issues and concerns, in a format that can be understood by all. Complex national security, corporate and personel security issues are technically presented and discussed. Views of the author on the "electronic battlefield" of the future are both enlighting and thoughtful. I sincerly recommend this book for individual and educational reading.

Summary: Educational, enlightening, and amazing!
Review: John Vacca never ceases to amaze me with the wealth of information he is able to put into a very concise yet understandable format. His latest book, Satellite Encryption, is no exception. John's books take you by the hand and guides you down a path of very complex subjects and issues, making sure you don't get lost. In the end you will feel the journey was well worth the effort.

The author's thorough and detailed research accompanied with his outstanding organizational skills make this a must read. Mr. Vacca takes the reader through a journey of satellite encryption covering such subjects as policy, management, security and the future of this new-world communication infrastructure. In particular, I enjoyed Chapter 21, "Satellite Encryption for the Electronic Battlefield of Today", as the author discusses signal and missile defense advances and their application for digital warfare of the future. This is a superbly well written book and a must for those individuals who want to stay abreast of the dynamic information technology field.

Summary: An intriguing view into the world of satellite encryption!
Review: Satellite Encryption by John Vacca describes the complex security issues that continue to arise as the amount of electronic, voice, and video data is transmitted via satellite communication channels. Of particular interest was the number of satellite launches by major corporations that are planned in the near future. As a business, we are finding the need to conduct business at a much greater speed via the Internet. The book goes on to describe the importance of this trend but also details the perils that face companies that will be required to conduct business using E-Commerce. The book informs the reader how satellite encryption methods are utilized today to safeguard critical and confidential information, and what techniques are utilized to implement these methods. The book emphasizes the inadequacies of the current encryption methods and the direction that improved encryption methods are taking to combat misuse by government, terrorists, and criminal organizations. Overall the book provides an intriguing view into the world of satellite encryption and brings to light the increasing need for confidentiality of both personal and government information in a rapidly changing information age.
