Rating: Summary: its a book with great explanations Review: it is a book that clearly conveys to the reader how to install upgrade and do complex things you would regulary get confused by large words in other books, but this is the most down to earth english book.
Rating: Summary: Success! I passed with this book Review: Of the 2 other books i bought to study for the exam this was the one that i relied on. the "real life tips" were an additional bonus, because they have been a good reference in my work. the cd was a usfklul aid innavigating through this very thick book, and the self test areas were helpful in pointing out my weak areas. Good part on Operating Systems.
Rating: Summary: Don't buy this book - Wait for the 2nd edition Review: The book has a wide array of errors that are not easily caught. This book would be a good choice if it was not for these errors. I would wait until the 2nd edition was printed.
Rating: Summary: Well organized, but lots of obvious mistakes Review: The book is well organized but lots of obvious mistakes to an experienced technican. Corrections are available on the publishers website, but there are 17 pages to download for both the text and the practice exam. I experienced several questions on the actual exam of topics not even addressed in the text book. The format for the practice exams is not indicative of the format used for the actual test. Overall I was slightly disappointed with the package as it is one of the more expensive publications on the market. In addition, the practice exams on the CD-ROM were limited in quantity and required that you pay an additional fee to receive the code and activate the additional practice questions.
Rating: Summary: Too many mistakes Review: The exam watch points in this book were a tremendous help in preparing for the exams. Unfortunately the book has many errors, some of which are now being disclosed on the Syngress web site. I'd recommend waiting until the book is reprinted unless you're extremely familiar with the material and can recognize the mistakes as you come across them.
Rating: Summary: Not worth the money Review: The information in this book was good, though it could've been better. It covered alot of stuff that was unnecessary for the A+ test. The exams in the book were absolutely AWEFULL! If you get this don't even use the practice exams. For exam questions I also got Coriolis A+ Exam Cram. I took and passed the A+ today w/ 84% Core and 89% Dos/Windows, and I fill the Coriolis book was very accurate! Good Luck!

Rating: Summary: This book deals with what one needs to know to pass the A+ Review: The one thing about this book is the fact that one can not use the end of the chapter quiz to review for the "real" A+ exam. The exam is nothing like the the quiz questions. 99% of the questions on the exam will be looking for a single answer. Its a good book when one has the foundation for computer repair. The CD-ROM (that came with this book) writer found to be very helpful. You must pay an additional fee to unlock the CD, but you will find this disk to be a very good source of information in relation to the A+ exam. Writer also used "Exam Cram" as reference book. It didn't cost a lot, and it was helpful. Writer also reviewed test questions that can be found on the "Net." Writer was able to pass the A+ exam (88/74 on 7/16/99) using the info. supplied above. Also keep in mind that many of the answers the test is looking for "are wrong." Writer marked right answers, (because right is right), and was marked down for it :-) Just use the answers given in the above books, as well as on "The Net." Use this rule when taking the A+, and you will be okay. Good luck. RON
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: This book helped me pass both exams (Core/DOS & Windows). Easy reading. Great for those with not alot of exp.
Rating: Summary: A+ Certification Study Guide - Second Edition Review: This book provides inadequate information concerning the A+ Certification Exam. I read this book cover to cover and understood all of the concepts being taught. The problem is the book does not cover any of the tested material (expect IRQ, I/O, DMA). If I hadn't cross-referenced study guides I would not have had any idea how bad the preparation really was. PLEASE purchase another book so that you do not waste your money on the book or the exam.
