Summary: Where is my review?

Summary: Great book
Review: There are some typos in the book, including some in example code. But the book gives you fundamental backgound on embedded systems. There is an example of an embedded OS, which is vector based and therefore very efficient. Lipovski's book is somewhat theory based but gives many practical solutions to demonstrate his points. I recommend this book to anyone with assembly language knowledge and would like to understand the ins and outs of embedded systems better.

Summary: Poorly, incompetently written
Review: This book is astoundingly horrible. As a University of Texas Student, who has had Dr. Lipovski, I have had the opportunity to use this book in its pre-published form. It is incoherent about many topics, and Dr. Lipovski has no clue about up-to-date C/C++ programming techniques. My fellow students and I spent many hours attempting to decipher his choice of words, the order in which things are discussed, and the reasoning behind the things that Dr. Lipovski espouses. From a student's point of view, this book is terrible, and I urge any professor who is considering using this book, please think again.

Summary: Book has useful information, but C compiler is a DEMO vers.
Review: Unlike the other reviews, I found the book to have some useful information although the writing style was somewhat disjoint.

The main annoyance that I find unforgivable was that nowhere within the book, on the book covers or in the publisher's review did they tell you that the HIWARE C++ compiler that accompanies the book is a DEMO version. You can compile and build small applications only, and you're constantly nagged to buy a license for the complete package (starting at $1,800 for those who want to upgrade their Motorola MCUEZ package).

The back cover of the book states that "A CD-ROM with HIWARE's professional C++ compiler is included with the book", and once the seal is broken on the plastic CD container you can't return the book. They conveniently omit the fact that this is a demo only version. I feel like I was baited and switched.
