Rating: 4 stars
Summary: It beats the search engine query response overload
Review: While search engines have grown more efficient at finding matches to specific queries, the growth of the web and the unavoidable vagueness of interpretation still causes many more responses to queries than the typical person can examine. In this environment, an indexed book of sites still has significant value, and that is what this book is. Nearly one thousand pages are devoted to listing the URL of a site and then a short, one paragraph description of what it contains. I found it valuable in tracking down a primary level of sites, where if what I need is not at that site, there are enough links to eventually take me to my goal.
The site considered by the editors to be the best in the category is marked with a special icon and child suitability rating icons also mark the sites. All sites are also noted with a number of stars to denote how usable they are. The ranking is one (low) to five (high).
Indexed based on categories and yellowed like a phone book, this book is indeed the Internet equivalent of the business section of the phone book. From it you can find thousands of sites described, giving you a place to start, no matter what you are searching for.
