Rating: Summary: It was good for me. Review: A lot of very useful info in a small book. I'm less than half the way through and I've already learned enough to make it worth the investment to me. The chapter on Using Tables was just what I needed. I would recommend this book to other beginners who are still trying to make sense of it all.

Rating: Summary: outdated but pretty to look at Review: A-yuh. Not much new in this one but it makes a nice coffee table book. The price is awe-inspiring considering the content is pedestrian and available in most beginner-to-intermediate web design books you probably already own but have never bothered to finish reading. Not recommended unless you don't have any books on this subject, in which case I would recommend for starters "Web Design in a Nutshell : A Desktop Quick Reference" by Jennifer Niederst. And if you really need pretty pictures, you can find them all live on the web.
Rating: Summary: Learning tool AND work of art Review: Finally! the book arrived from Amazon. It was well worth the wait. I can immediately see that it is full of wonderful ideas and techniques. Some of the illustrations are stunning, prompting the question "how did they do that?" Then the text tells exactly how!Congratulations on producing a wonderful learning tool that is also a work of art. I look forward to savouring the book during the coming weeks.
Rating: Summary: First four chapters are excellent. Review: I found the preface to this book inspiring, and the first four chapters are definitely well worth reading - they cover speed issues, site navigation, the use of Photoshop (including Photoshop icons), image colour look-up tables, dither, JPEGs and even typography. The rest of the book really is not that interesting at all, but, like I've already said, the first 4 chapters make it worthwhile.
Rating: Summary: yes. It is detailed and specialized, but has great ideas. Review: I used this book to do things on a web page that I never had even thought of doing. I have a rotating object done with an animated GIF. They recommended a more complex method, but I did it simple and without a quicktime plugin. Also I updated my javascript based on one chapter, to ensure that what works on NS, will not die on IE. I also discovered how to stretch the center of a page and keep a constantly sized margin. On the whole the book has some great ideas. Use it as an ideas book, rather than a training manual!
Rating: Summary: Not much depth Review: I was looking for a book that would give suggestions about what looks good from a web perspective. I selected this book because I though it would be good to see the issue from several different points of view. Unfortunately, none of the interviews really give a good explanation or method to designing a web site.
Rating: Summary: If you know any HTML, don't but this book Review: I wish that I had more carefully considered all these other opinions that suggest this book is not that good...because now I agree. On my best day I am barely an intermediate web designer and this book had not ONE secret to offer me. The Studio Secrets book it is for beginners only - the HTML is the same as any other beginner book, and the scripting samples you can pull off of virtually any web page.
Rating: Summary: Bad coffeetable book Review: If you want a book to put on your coffee table that will tell people that you know absolutely nothing about web design then look no further. I bought this book from Amazon and it is one of the worst books I have ordered. Yes, there are lots of full color pictures of websites... so what? I can go on line and see web sites... Where is the in depth design analysis? Not to be found here. Besides most of the sites it exhibits are static 'home page' style sites. Not one of these is a high-volume commerce site - these 'home page' sites are the kind of sites that don't even require an analysis of design past a few minuets to think up what you want to display and how you want to put it on the page - which is all the book talks about from a most puerile point of view. It was a while back when I bought the book so I actually feel very guilty for not posting this review sooner to help dissuade some of you from making a bad purchase, sorry!
