Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Not for Certificate. As a published book, too many typo Review: I don't recommend this book. When I started to read this book, I enjoyed some topics even Sun's official text books for certificates don't cover. However, I assume most of people bought this book for the certificate exams because of the title of this book. In that case, I doubt how serious the author took the responsibility for such readers. 1)The title is misleading readers. It sounds like this book is dedicated for the three exams for Solaris 9. However, they don't cover all of the topic for the exam. The book talks other topics like LDAP or Telnet. If the title is nothing to do with the exam. This book is okay. 2)There are too many typo in this book. As a published book users pay $70.00, this publisher and author didn't take their responsibility. I gave 1 star because I believe the book should be totally revised to meet the readers' satisfaction. (For me, three to five stars are to evaluate range of quality of content a book provides readers; how much the content and the quality meets the readers' requirement or balance of the quality and the price. One to two stars are for books readers felt wasted money.) I passed all of the SCSA and SCNA exams without problem because I took the Sun Solaris courses at school and had the text books from Sun Microsystems. I also had access to Sun eLearning on their Web site. I studied hard. I'm very positive that I wouldn't passed the exam if I focused on this book.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Broad coverage of relevant topics Review: I'm currently studying for the System Administrator exam and I found this book to be very useful indeed. It covers all of the main topics listed in the exam requirements, but sometimes you have to dig to find them (why do publishers always have poor indexing). I've been reading the Sun manuals - and they're too long and too verbose. Watters cuts through the ...and explains concepts very clearly usually with one or more worked examples. I like the format and the hardcover is very durable - many of my other computer books just end up falling apart.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Not for beginners and inaccurate Review: This book is definitely not for beginners, and has many inaccuracies throughout. I have personally found numberous facts throughout the book that I have proven wrong on many levels and by many people. If you are looking for a refresher about the Solaris OS, then by all means read away. However, if you are looking to study for and pass the certification tests, then look elsewhere. Also, the book covers many topics that have no relevance to the tests themselves. Such as.... 1) LDAP is not a network admin. cert. topic it is a system admin. cert. topic 2) ATM is not anywhere in the Sun objectives or test 3) 10BASE2 is 10Mbps not 2Mbps and the list goes on and on.......
