Summary: Not all things are what they claim to be...
Review: I have read the book and found it amusing at best; it does not live up to the expectations suggested by its pompous title and author's name... Despite the fact that the book does furnish and comment several simple "B&E" techniques, including some that border on the ridiculous, there is not a serious discussion on Hackering as an ethical and aesthetical matter of concern, not to mention the technical side of it all... If you really want to learn, reflect or simply inform yourself about Hackerism and its siblings, look elsewhere...

Summary: Great Info
Review: If you are a Cracker this books reinforces everything you already know. Yet for those who aren't crackers (illegal hackers), this book is informative. It gives the common computer user a look into the world of knowledge possesed by the computer specialist. I would however like to say that this book also likes to point out in Knightmares stories that "without a true hacker most of the internet sites would not get informed about their secuity problems". He also points out that there are two types of hackers. The type that help sysops by informing them of security problems and holes (hacker), and the type that exploit and damage computers and users (crackers). The thing I liked most about the book is how Knightmare points out how people have mislabled the word HACKER.

Summary: this book is not for hackers, but for the general public
Review: If you're a hacker and want some knoweledge, don't read this book. Also if you're a system manager and are hoping to learn how to protect your system from those never-do-well hackers, don't buy this book. I don't know who this Knightmare guy is, but he obviously didn't write this book to help out the above two types of people. This book is full of generality and useless gibber. There are "common password lists" in the back of the book. Does that tell you enough? You CAN NOT publish a common password list as an appendix to a book. If you want a password list, by Webster's. You'll get a lot farther that way. System managers, this book reveals no secrets. This is common knoweledge that will most likely insult your intelligence. On the other hand, if you're just a regular Joe who wants to find out what a hacker is, this may be the book for you. There is no terminology in this book that will confuse a 6-year-old. Knightmare, whoever you are, I don't mean to be rude, and I don't know your intentions. I don't even know if you're real. You may just be a handle made up by the publishing company, but don't write any more books like this, okay? When you want to write a good book on IP spoofing give me a ring and I'll publish it in my ezine. Until then, -- Phirewall Editor Everything's Underground - Information to Challenge Convictions dHAKd Communications

Summary: Here's an appropriate reading list:
Review: It never ceases to amaze me how individuals with the least amount of experience can scam the general public. This book follows suit. Along with "The Happy Hacker", it is a product of an aspiring mind destined to land in criminal refines. The information in this book is far from original and can be downloaded from any dedicated underground site on the Web. If you want to become a hacker, approach the goal in the following manner:

Books from Amazon.com to study: <'The C Programming Language', 2nd edition> <'Learning the BASH shell'> <'Firewalls and Internet Security'> <'Practical Unix & Internet Security'> <'Linux: The Complete Reference'> <'Beginning Linux Programming'> <'Applied Cryptography'> <'The Cuckoo's Egg'>

These manuals alone would not account for the tremendous quantity of information that a hacker must obtain and understand. But they are classic references which are written by authors who are *known* to be authority figures on the subject at hand. This may not be an appropriate space to make suggestions such as this, but, in addition to the previous works, you may wish to examine RFC files which are distributed on the Net. You'll progress rapidly.

In short... don't waste your time, nor your money. The author's intentions were probably sincere, but I assure you that the practices described in this book would easily result in various legal afflictions thrown at you, for the techniques are heavily outdated and primarily ineffectual.

Review: Read it and can't believe they let him tell the secrets. I'm ready to try these out. Knightmare is elite. I want to learn more. Do you have other books?

Summary: I like this book
Review: Regardless of what anyone says, I say this book kicks ass. Its a book. It can't go into every detail on hacking. The guy who wrote this book is the most well known hacker on this planet. I heard his name before I heard of the book. The name of the book isn't what drew me to it, it was the name of the author on the front cover. If you want details go buy books on SPECIFIC SOFTWARE.

Summary: The book is for newbies and is outdated.
Review: Secrets of a Super Hacker is a complete waste of time. Anyone with some basic knowledge of computers would not even benefit one bit from reading it. The only reason that it got a 2 from me was because of the content. Yes, some of the content may be good, but it is very basic. You might like the book if you're a complete newbie to the subject only because it walks you through everything step by step.

Summary: The best beginner hacking book I have ever read!
Review: Teaches you what hacking is, how to hack, when to hack, where to hack, everything you need to know about the term 'hacking'. I read this book in a night!! If you know how to read, you'll know how to hack by reading this book.
